READY SET GO! My 1966 911 Restoration.
After a couple of years of waiting, I have now decided to get crazy on my own restoration. My car is a matching numbers 1966 911 (302980). I was extremely fortunate to have found this car. The color code is 6608 Aga Blue. I have found the chassis to be dry meaning, no rust. All panels with the exception of one fender are matching to the car. Complete original black interior is in good condition. My vision on this car is to have a completely restored from top to bottom daily driver. I have already dropped the engine (903069) and tranny (901 44/65) and proceeded to clean them up and rebuild if necessary. The motor came with never before used WEBERS 40IDA but hope to find a good set of Solex's 40 PI. The car comes with chrome wheels dated 7/65. Like with all the cars I undertake, I start with first fitting panels before media blasting. Here are a few pictures of the start. Hope you enjoy the thread and stay tuned it should be a fun one.

I love the long hood restoration projects especially when the desired outcome will be close to stock. You will really have something when you are done, whenever that is. Almost seems like these projects go on forever. But hey, that's the fun of the whole experience. Keep us posted.
Enjoy!

I'm fortunate that all the wood dash trim and wood steering wheel is in fair condition. It's probably the last item that I will restore. After having been a cabinet maker and furniture restorer, I can't wait to get started on the wood pieces. Here are a few more before pictures...

Today was a running around in the wind and rain type of day. Jim down at EASY took care of me with a driver side fender for the project. I can always count on a great story coming from Jim. A man that has been in the business for over 40 years knows a thing or two Porsche's and life in general. From there I took a trip over to Retro Sport in Berkeley to see Ben on the 2.8 engine install progress of the Lime 74 Carrera...more to follow on this car later on a different thread. I had some time yesterday to tear down the Webers and give them a good cleaning and powder coating. Tomorrow I will do the same on the 2.0 engine.

Have I missed this new thread? It's been 24 hours since the tease photos. Have a heart!

Tulsa, I guess I should have not let the cat out of the bag so soon. Hang in there these write-ups take a big chunk of time..

I have started to get back some of the panels back from my media blasting guy. What is considered to be a "good" media blasting job? Well, in my experience, it takes more than a guy with lot's of media and a huge hose full of psi to get the job done correctly. The best media locations are those places that strickly do cars. It's these guys that know the importance of not distorting the metal in such away that panels are warped and ruined for ever. There are many media blasting places that do only large pipes, metal drains, giant motors etc. Those are the places I avoid. Your panels should look completely silver in color with no signs of rust in the metal pours. It takes much investment and labor to bring a car back to its original paint job. So, cutting coners in the media blasting process is cause for disaster on your car in the future when the paint starts to lift due to pour adhension. So, let's get done right the first time. Remember that you only have but a few hours to get the metal ready for epoxy primer before the metal starts to show signs of surface rust. Once the epoxy is layed, than you can start the metal work knowing the you have no rust. Remember that a quality job starts with a clean canvas...

The guys over at the S registry nailed the photo shot. Ding, ding, ding...Yes Stu Thomsen Aka (Babe Ruth of BMX) The jump was done in 1983. I was a young boy when he was in his prime. It has been said that during his first trial jump, he left his rear tire marks on the roof of the the last red turbo. So, in the black and white picture below, you see him making the adjustment in order to clear the last car. It was amazing he hit that jump considering he had no landing ramp. The nicknames "The Man" and "Stompin Stu", were due in part to his size at 6 feet 1.5 inches and 200 lbs. Crazy stuff. Opps did I jusk hijack my own thread?
