Elephant Racing Long Term test

Coming back from NY today, I had the opportunity to play touch and go with a new Bentley Continental. We hit 80 to 120 sprints as many times as possible over about 50 miles on fairly clear Merritt Pkwy, 91 and 84 in CT... caught up with 2 Troopers along the way. Hit 140 once. Nice to know the old girl at 231K miles (motor never opened) can still get up to go, the Bentley walking away somewhere around 110 in mid-4th.

BUT, the shining star on the car is the suspension with Elephant Racing polybronze bearings front and rear. Lowered, Bilstein sports, 22/29s, turbo tierods, AJUSA strut brace and 17 Cup IIs with Pilot rubber complete the package.

Over the entire time, I couldn't ask for a more solid, connected, safe feeling even at the highest speeds, and having other Carreras with just Sports, etc., I have to attribute this "connected" feeling to Chuck's bearings. A previous 86 coupe in better shape than my scrappy old Targa never came close to feeling this good.

I've had this set-up for about 15,000 miles now and can honestly say it was the best upgrade I've done to the car, with the possible exception being the SteveW chip.

Kudos also to Rensport in Framingham, MA for pulling the entire package together so well.

This is kind of stuff Excellence should be doing IMHO.

Great feedback. I was wondering how these would hold up but didn't think there would be any problems. This is on my short list of things to buy.

Good to hear. Thanks for the update. Bentley Continental? Is that the big convertible? Does it really go that fast?

It's the big coupe, and iirc it's got a supercharged V12 under the hood.

Its a twin turbo 12 cylinder with something like 500hp. It weighs something north of 2200kg. The chassis bears a passing resemblance to a VW Phaeton underneath all the pretty bodywork - so its 4WD.

Gets a surprisingly good review in UK car mags - but its a behemoth nonetheless.

I just upgraded all of mine from Neatrix and plastic bushings to Elephant Racing bits, and there's a HUGE difference in feel.

I'm glad the products are working well for you guys. It's great to hear this kind of feedback.

Just wait till you get them on the track. The improved feel and ability of the suspension to respond to road and driver inputs should improve your lap times.

Damn, another few hundred bucks to add to the ever increasing cost of my engine/EFI job.

Isn't handling the forte of Miatas? From all I've seen, they don't need much help in that department.

A fairly clear Merrit Pkwy? That's the true revelation here, I always get stuck behind some slow pig on that d#$n road and when I finally open up out comes the unforgiving CT troopers....

Man that road pisses me off....It is so pretty and tempting in the p-car but always disappoints....

Isn't Letterman a common "speeder" on the Merrit? I wonder who's Bentley it was?

The Merritt is the best playground in NE! True enough, it can get filled up with Westport, New Canaan and Greenwich soccer moms running errands in their monster SUVs, perfect brawling blond brats buckled in the back, but you just have to treat them as cones. Just kidding.

If you hit the Merritt at 2-3 in the afternoon, there's some good driving to be had.

CT Troopers are bastards to be sure, and they are always out. The state has to have at least one revenue stream.
