New Engine.. Before and After (pics)
I thought I'd just post a preliminary before vs after of the engine I'm nearly finished. Looking forward to my big trip from Australia to SoCal and SF this month (plus Ventura) to try and find a few more goodies to complement the engine (wifey thinks it's a honeymoon
![]() From this 2.7 Japan spec with (30mm ports) maybe 150hp tops ![]() To now, 2.7 RS P&C, S cam, early exhaust-delete heat, tensioner upgrade, webers bla bla.... ![]() ![]() I've taken photos and documented just about everything and will eventually write it up and post all the details.

Now that's real pretty. Nothing like a carbed engine.
Beautiful job, good luck with it! Mike

What a perfect looking engine, John!
You should have built two engines - one to drive and one to put in a glass case! ![]()

Thanks for getting it prepped to drop in my 914, haha (jealous laughter). Very nice looking motor, any idea what the 'after' HP will be?

Thanks for the compliments guys... it is gonna kill me to hide it in the engine bay, anyone do a polycarbonate rear lid?
![]() Well, briefly in Australian dollars, currently 1.3:1 in your favour... Engine core as you see it in the first picture $2000 Mahle RS Pistons and cylinders $2300 Bushing & Machining $900 Crank magnaflux and micro polish $90 Rebuild heads inc all new valves $900 Rebuild seal kit $300 Regrind CIS cams to S $750 Bearings, chains and supports, intermediate shaft cogs $500 Powder coating tinware, fan and housing $80 Electroplating fan strap, linkages, pulleys etc... $150 Paint shroud, covers, (engine bay), mounting hardware etc... $100 for 2 pack paint (I did it all myself) Tubo valve covers top and bottom $200 (uppers second hand) Carrera tensioner kit $300 (second hand) fasteners $100 Miscellanious $???? I guess by the time it's back in the car and tuned I'll have outlayed just over $9500 Aussie dollars = $6000 USD? As you know, you never count your own time, but there is hundreds of hours in there, I used the number of my wife's disapproval stares to gauge that ![]() When I've got 210hp leak free engine I'll post a photo of my ***** eating grin!

I had the same motor built for my 72 (RS clone).
A ton of power but................... gas mileage sucked the big one (it was worth every gallon) ![]()
