Parts Source in So Cal
Any recommendations for a used parts source for 911's in So Cal? Looks like my "federalized" 911SC is going to need some parts according to my local CARB rep...
Thanks, Steve

Steve, post what you need on the used parts forum, I'm sure lots of guys have that stuff sitting around. Is RSM, Rancho Santa Margarita?

Yes.
Already posted the WTB for the EGR stuff, but I may need some other worthless smog stuff as well.

You may also want to call/swing by some of the local shops in South County. Perhaps they have what you need sitting in storage collecting dust...
![]() I'm in RSM also, where are you located? Ralph |

Einmalig in Huntington beach has lots of stuff, but whenever I've tried to buy something there evidently the parts were solid gold and priced accordingly.
One time they had a used part I needed for $95, pelican's price (new) was $106. I bought the new one from pelican. That was two years ago and maybe they have become more realistic. |

There are a couple of P-car dismantlers up in Sun Valley in the SFV. One is "LA Porsche Dismantlers," but they own other yards. I found one on the "wrecking yard row" that had a lot of 944's. Get on the YellowPagesdotcom thing and call all of them and let them know you're shopping. You can plan on them all knowing each other, so maybe play it your advantage and let one of them bird dog for you, if you can.

There is a place called Atuobahn in El Cajon, San Diego that should have just about everything you need. 619-444-2290

Like that Idea Milt, I have dealt with L.A. Dismantelers, they are a little shifty, got some glass from them, and the yard guy put some caulk on the window, right over a scratch, so any dealings I do with them now, I check out, don't trust them too much anymore. That was one time, I called them on it and haven't had problems with them since, but lost my trust. I will have to look into the El Cajon place, thanks guys, maybe if Einmalig looses enough business, he might take a smart pill and wise up, and quit burning people.

I dealt with la dismantlers once and the outcome was not good. They charged my card and never shipped out the part. They kept telling me it was shipped out and on its way, than changed theyre story and said the part was unavailible. They did credit back my card, but I didnt apprecieate being lied to and left in limbo for 3 weeks.

No in SoCal, but I got much of my missing smog stuff at reasonable prices from Cliff Brown in SF. He posts in the parts forum so he may have seen your WTB post. His number is 415-846-1680. What do you need? I have air pump, spider manifold and anti-backfire valve left over. I had to jury-rig the EGR piping and got it to pass without all the official parts. Let me know if you have any questions. Ron

20th Street in Phoenix has a good rep. Not too far for shipping expense. Parts Haven has always been good to me. If you can't go to the yard in person, might as well deal with the known good guys. Stories like Rodsrsr's are too common.

Thanks for all the replies!
I only need EGR stuff. I have all the air pump stuff. Trying to get a completely legal setup for temporary installation only. I think they actually check the EGR by disconnecting something and seeing what happens. Don't know the details, but I have had this problem before on a tow vehicle where I had to unplug some intake manifold port. Suffice to say they just don't want to see some kind of valve with rubber hoses comming off it, they think it should do something. Funny thing is that tube is the high dollar item. dcautomotive has it listed for almost $500. I will set the car on fire before I pay $500 for a smog tube. Steve

Steve:
I went throught the same thing and managed to hook up the EGR valve temporarily w/o using the factory parts. Most of the hoses are not where the smog test guys can easily look and as long as the RPMs drop when they put vacuum on the EGR valve, you will pass. If you are already stuck with a specific referee that may mean a more exact inspection but I have no experience there. You will need some sort of connection to the muffler but it should still be there if you have a stock muffler. PM me and I can send you more details or we can talk by phone. Ron
