Bursch mufflers - sound good?
I am interested in the quiet street and the sport street applications for an early 911. Who out there has owned one? Does it sound good or like a rice burner? Are they of decent quality?
Thanks Allan |

I had a '75 911S with SSI's and the Bursch dual in single out muffler installed. I really liked the sound of that car. I now have an '86 with SSI's and I'm trying to find another muffler that has a similar sound. I do remember that the muffler interfered with my rear valance. The valance would heat up because the muffler pressed right against it. Not sure if this is usual with the Bursch.

I have a Bursch with my stock 74 exchangers (which are just like SSI's) and I love the sound. I get compliments on it and it doesn't sound "ricey." Reasonably quiet so I don't wake the neighbors going up my street, but after 3k RPM boy does she come on-song!
Although I did have a neighbor ask me once if I had fixed my exhaust yet! |

I had the 1 in 1 out Bursch on my 911SC. It had a deeper rumble sound than the stock muffler. I switched to SSI exchanger with Dansk 2 in 1 out. Now has higher pitch, true air cooled Porsche sound. Neither sound rice.

I hated my Bursch. I think it made the car sound like a wounded duck.
I got rid of it and put on a factory muffler and am much happier.

I had a dual-in single-out Bursch from SSIs and it was too loud. The sound wasn't rice, but it also wasn't Porsche. It wasn't until I replaced it with a Dansk single out that I truly understood the song of the aircooled flat six that everyone talks about.

I have a bursch on my car. I think it sounds sorta like a factory sportbike muffler.

I am running Bursch headers & muffler on my '74 (no cat). I like it loud & it definitely is when I get on it. Can't beat it bang for the buck.

I don't have a Bursch but it is my understanding that you will find that the volume is affected by if its single or dual out. I had heard that B&B's were loud but my single out isn't that loud.

I had a dual in singel out bursch and it was loud but still ok for daily driving. I really liked the way it sounded.

There are two types of bursch mufflers. The glass pack type and the steel pack type. I had the steel pack. ...again, hated it!

911-M5, your best bet is to hear a 911 with a Bursch and another 911 with a competitor you would consider. Where in VA are you located?

Had a Bursch dual in/single out on my '72. Didn't like it. It was just loud and droned irritatingly at cruise RPMs. Like JMZ, I put on a stock muffler & was much happier.

Add a Flowmaster (I have one) and prepare to have your ears bleed from 2200 to 3200!

SSIs w/ Dansk 2 in 1 out: good power, good sound, not too loud.
