Evil Engine Stand
I needed an engine stand and decided to make it myself. Here are some pictures from the construction and the finished product.
I chose to use the famous brown colored metal for that nice well used look ![]() Seriously - this was a two day project to make something that works well for me. Not to make a fancy stand with paint and other unnecessary features ![]() Total cost was around $30 (for having the C-bracket made) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Testing the cup holder. It works! ![]()

Thanks for the pics Ove. I'm going to have a friend make me an engine adapter to fit into an engine stand for me. The new ones are $300, which I think is ridiculous. I'm sure he can make me one for under $20.

Ove,
Only thing you might think about is putting some good industrial wheels on the stand. Course that would double the cost! Sure is nice to be able to move it around when needed. Nice work! JoeA

A Porsche engine stand has no need for a cup holder! This is proof that Porsche engine stands have lost their way and are simply trying to appeal to the mass market.
I weep for the lost, purist soul of the engine builder... Wayne

Ove,
You're going to have a hard time fitting that cup holder under the dash.

Joeaksa,
Yes some wheels would be nice. It's on my list of things to do. But since I don't need to move it around yet it can wait. Paul, I had the C shaped bracket cut with a water jet. That's where the $30 went. Then I had to make the groove in it with an angle grinder. I could have made the "C" myself, but wanted to save some time. Cutting almost 1/2" thick steel to make it is not much fun. ![]() Souk, The cup holder wasn't installed in the first pic you saw. In fact I got the idea when reading your cup holder thread a few days ago. We all know (most of us anyway) that a cup holder installed in a car makes the car go faster as you don't have to worry about your drink all the time. So I'm thinking the engine rebuild will go faster as well with a cup holder. No need to look for my drink ![]() I have also welded on some tabs in the end to make it possible to lock the turning handle in various positions. I could also have drilled a number of holes through both tubes and lock them with a pin, but welding was faster. ![]()

Ove, you're on to something! I can't tell you how much time I waste looking for my Guinness after I set it down to torque something.

Ove, that thing looks heavy enough that there shouldn't be any stabilization issues. How's the balance?

![]() Souk, I don't think stability will be a problem. It's very heavy and doesn't move at all with me sitting on the engine end. A completed engine is probably 2-3 times my weight, but still I believe it will do fine. IF there is a problem I can always make an extension for the bottom part of it.

Ove, you weren't suppose to let on about sitting on it. Now they'll all know it's a turet/seat launcher!

Uh Oh you're not using Porsche special tool number (yada yada yada) you're engine will never work and if it does it'll sound like a buick and run backwards, just warning ya! hehe.
![]() Seriously you're a man after my own heart, as I prefer to just make tools rather than buy them.
