Toolkit contains?
Just a few weeks ago I bought my first Porsche. 25 years or so of lusting after one finally put the crowbar in my wallet. It is an 88 911 Carrera Cabriolet. Triple black with 37k miles. It had very recently had the 30 something k-miles service at a P-car racing team shop in Tampa and I was buying it from a long-time friend so I didn't do a PPI. The car actually seems better than I expected. It is 100% stock with orginal paint in very fine condition. No dings and only a few stone chips which I have touched up.
The one negative is that the tool kit is missing. I went to remove the wheels in order determine wheel widths and couldn't find a lug wrench. The manual mentions a toolkit with a compressor and a pressure guage. My buddy had never even looked for the toolkit. He had all service done by Stoddard in Oh and the shop in Tampa. What all should be in there? The jack is there and works nicely (I think I was the first to use it). I'm trying to find all the original stuff for this car. Heck I even have a little grey book that is called the 1988 Porsche fact book and lists all models, prices, specs and options. Actually the best part is driving this thing. What a blast!! I should have bought one a long time ago.

tool kit
![]() The best thing in the kit is the factory spark plug tool. A lifesaver! Also, get a spare DME/Fuel Pump relay for the glove box.

Thanks for the quick response. I have been lurking on this forum for a few weeks and am impressed with the good information and advice.
Yeoow, look at all the tools in that kit! And I thought the BMW one was pretty nice. No wonder somebody heisted it. The box must be the compressor. Is all that supposed to fit in front of the spare? The jack IS pretty scary. I'll use a floor jack next time.

The spanner to hold the fan belt is critical, and the sunroof cranck could become so. You can cobble together the rest of the items to save money. I think a complete used kit would run you about $200+ from what I see on eBay.
I'd say: The best time & frustration saver in the kit is the factory spark plug tool. Some people keep a 944 scissors jack in the car. |

I think you might still be able to buy these new? ( toolkit)
You could a few years back anyway. Congrats on the ride. If you don't have an owners manual their good to have too. |

The box is the factory compressor. They came in black or white and I've never seen where it fits except sliding around the truck area. Unless you are going for concours, if you can find a fan belt spanner, spark plug tool, and sunroof crank you are good to go. The rest are standard tools (although a spare fan belt and some fuses are nice to have).
That guy under the pickup is crazy or suicidal.

I don't think I'll doing the concours thing but I do like to have all the original stuff when practical. I'll see about getting the needed tools like the spanner, spark plug wrench, lug wrench as well as spare fuses and the relay.
I am working on detailing the car mostly because it was so darn cherry when I got it. I don't know how someone could have a car for 16 years and not get even a little dent. I am thinking about minor upgrades like 16" Fuchs wheels to accomodate current tire technology. The 15x7 and 15x8 wheels look good but the tires available are disappointing. The 10 year old P6 tires on the car are the same model that shipped new on the car. I think the Steve Wong chip sounds like a no-brainer upgrade.
