great porsche add on speed

i was watching porsche cup racing this weekend on speed that my pops had recorded to watch at our cabin (no tv signal there). there was a GREAT add in which a kid of about 12 years pulls up to the dealership on his bike. he goes in and the salesman kinda "humors" the kid by letting him sit in it in the show room. as the kids leaving he says to the salesman " may i get your business card?" the salesman hands it over and the kid says "see you in about 20 years", gets on his bike and rides off.

i got all misty and nearly cried (well not really) but that was a great spot. kind of how i felt at 12 years old. very cool.

You can download the whole commercial off the Porsche website. Very cool!

Yea great idea for a commercial. Would it really happen? Not with any Porsche saleman that I have ever met. They all had serious issues/attitude. Cute commercial... to bad Porsche North America cant follow through.

I would have liked to have seen that commercial take place, right in the beginning, in 83-84 w/ the kid saying he'll come back in 20 years. The not so young kid would of course have the same business card and the dealer would look older.

yeah, P-cars North America is not anyones friend as of late. a certain wrench i know has been very upset about the cost of shop books and such for the newer models. like $1000 for each one, one meaning one for motor, one for suspension, one for body, etc. he thinks they are gouging

Wink funny you should say...

....as I can remember, when I grew up in Detroit, my first international auto show (brought as a baby, but don't recal) down at COBO center was in 1983/84.

The very first thing I did every year when I was there was BEG BEG BEG my dad to let me see the porsches. My brother and I would naturally collect all the literature for the cars and organize them in these giant shopping bags they give you. It was the most mezmorizing experience!!! .....all those shinny new cars covering who knows how many football fields of space. it was my favorite part of the year. people crowded around concept cars and prototypes.

anyways....point being, I always spent the most time I could gazing at those 911's. (of course the doors were all locked and they didn't even THINK of letting some kid like me in...not even when I was older) I still have all the brochures from the early 80's on into about 98 i think.

well, I don't know if I was ever handed a business card, but now, ~20 years later, I have my first 911. Am I the only one to fit this storyline in pelicanland?? i hope not....I'm lucky to be at the point in my life where I can own one this early. Livin the dream!

Yeah, I don't know how the Porsche family's attitude is back in the Fatherland, but PCNA with Fred Schwab at the helm does not give me the warm fuzzies. I realize that they are in the business to make money building cars, but I can't help but feel that they are more focused on building cars to make as much money as they can, as opposed to building the best cars they can while making money doing it. Does that make sense? At any rate, it would be nice if Porsche could get back to being an engineering driven company instead of being marketing driven. I know, I'm dreamin'...

Hence their $920 chrono package that adds a sport button that will give you increase throttle response. It's a Porsche, it should leave the factory with the best throttle response free of charge, not with some stupid expensive software add-on.

Hasn't happened to me in years...

If you walk in there knowing more about the cars and company than the salesmen do, they're forced to cut the crap. Just my experience...
