need help id'ng a tail....

i have this tail. i was taking it apart to clean, prep for painting and sale. the rubber is in great shape (needs some re-conditioner to shine), p# 911.512.019.00. according to my reference, the rubber is from a 2.7 / 3.0 carrera.

the lid/tail is fiberglass over a steel frame. haven't found a part# stamp anywhere yet. don't know if it's original or aftermarket. i've enclosed pics. anyhelp id'ng it is appreciated. thanks,

mike

Looks like an early turbo tail.

Has the small grill of the 76 Turbo. The 3.0 Carreras didn't have the second grill. The steel bonded to fiberglass is the factory process but it seems kind of rough on the backside.

You're kidding! I mean, '76 930's are plentiful in prices lower than '97 Boxters?

I had a repro tail that sold for 500, and the guy who bought said he would have easily given me 1K for an original one, so I did some searches, and he was right! That was about 1 1/2 years ago however.

Were earlier tails made of fiberglass?

A modern tail has a much cleaner finish on the underside and is made of Fibron (or is it Flexon (sp).
