i dont think it is a hot start issue. BUT!

ok, my SC. after i drove it hard on the two day autoX. i now have sort of a hot start issue. cold, it starts right up, and settles into a nice idle. and if i drive it to hot, and shut it off, it still starts right up and settles into a nice idle. BUT if i let the hot motor sit there and stew, today up to two hours, it will start up rough. i need to catch it when i fires up with the throttle and feather up the rpm's. then when i let off it goes down to about 600 rpms. if i hold it awhile it will idle nice. checking reciepts i see a new accumulator installed a little while back. couldnt find a check valve mentioned.

i tried a search but hot start issues dont really seem to apply. i will read my books, but i dont remember recalling anything. any ideas? maybe mixture? i drove by my mechanic and he offered to hook it up to measure the mix, but of all things the couldnt because he had a haircut appointment. jeez i guess he has to look good. (valhalla)

cliff. thx.

My first thought was vapor lock but the acumulator should have fixed that. If the filter was clogged, you'd have problems all the time. Could this be a fuel pump issue?

I'd try raising the CIS air flapper when it doesn't start. Only 3 or 4 sec or you'll flood the cylinders. If it starts it could be a fuel pump check valve.. if it doesn't you'll have more fun.

This all assumes the engine spins when you turn key to start.

you know what i noticed on my WUR? i had it out once to adjust cold control pressure, by tap dancing on the plug. at the area, where a screw goes was dented. i had to straighten it in order to get the flat bladed screwdriver into the slot. seemed like someone dropped it before. that cant be good. but is there much in the way of moving parts that can be jarred?

Vash,

No, not in the plug area ( the plug that is knocked to adjust, not the elec connection). See section 200-6 Bentley.

CIS pressures are within spec.

Cliff, is there any chance that you have one or more injectors that are leaking down. Your symptoms have been explained to me as the injector lines purging themselves of air. It sounds as though the car runs fine after a few seconds. Let me know what you think. Chuck

Cliff,

Just in case you haven't tried already:

What about the check valve? Did you say you checked for residual pressure?
Leaking cold start valve? Do you have a thermotime switch?
Oxygen sensor?
Vapor lock?
The usual air leak locations?

i messed with the mixture. leaned it a bit, two clicks. i did, the push-pull thing on the allen and went in the direction that made it run smoother. when i pushed it cleared up. so i click it down clockwise. when i plugged the O2 back in it definately got rougher. isnt my OX red light on the dash supposed to light up when it goes bad? my mech, says it will take just a few minutes to check my mix. i may have him do it. he says it takes more time for his machine to warm up.

I don't have these things on my car, but I have certainly read a lot on this board about starting/running problems that were traced back to O2 sensors and relays, and DME and relays.
