oil relief spring
So I accidentally changed the oil via the oil pressure relief valve and not the correct drain plug, which was hidden behind the sump and the eight nuts keeping it on. Anyway, there was not a piston with the spring that I have seen in some pcitures on the web here and am wondering if there are some instances where there is just a spring. Also, could I go ahead and change the oil normally (ie the right way) and forget about it or is it something that my mechanic should address. Apparently I have a 3.2 oil pump in my car and that is why my oil plug is not visible from underneath. I have a race next weekend at road america so I need to get cracking.

I don't understand the statement "I have a 3.2 oil pump so my oil plug is not visable from underneath" Do you mean that you have a 3.2 crankcase??? Thats the only way that would be possible. Andhow you should have the piston in there it controls oil pressure. Check to make sure it is just not stuck up in the bore! If it is just reassemblt it and change the oil correctly and run it
