71 T Distrib.
Anyway to tell which model of Bosch distributor the P.O. of my 71 T had installed to replace the Marelli (without pulling it)?
The Bosch rotor they put on is marked 1234 332 and 205 7100 Would the rotor have several distrib. applications? Or are there several different Bosch distributors that could be used to update from a Marelli. It seems to me that a 6500 RPM (not 7100) limiter model is the standard for the T's of my era, and didn't know if this is a mismatch as I try to narrow down some issues.

Not sure but I don't think there is supposed to be a vacuum advance and think there is only one part# replacement.
It could be from a different year, or an E/S which have different centrifical advance curves, I believe. I'm sorting through a situation with mine because it doesn't have enough range to be correct at idle and at 6000rpm at the same time. |

The rotor wont tell you much except the redline..
look at the dist. there should be a little oval plaque attached by rivets to it that has the distributors p/n stamped on it. If there is no provision for vacuum advance, it is a very early distributor, which isnt a bad thing.

The 1.234.332.205 rotor is a '72 - '73 911E rotor, and a '206' 911S 7300 rpm rotor will also fit! Also, several VW resistor/non-resistor, non-rev-limiting rotors will fit.
The distributor without vacuum retard is a pre-72 design. You would have to post the distributor part number to find its' original apllication and advance curve.

Thanks.

Mine has numbers stamped on the alum housing facing the rear. I can easily see them with a flashlight and dental mirror.
I don't read upside down and backwards very well (must be that damned dyslexia), but it seems to end in 169 007. No vacuum. I truely believe this to be the original distributor for my 2.2 S motor. |

Hi there,
yes your number for the Bosch distributor should be JFDR6 0231 159 007, which is the original one for your model. Check out the page I have a question as well. My original distributor is a Marelli S 112 Bx, since I have a 1970 2,2T Targa. The earlier models have a Marelli S 112 Ax. Any idea what the difference is? Thanks, Ralf |
