Plugged CIS Adjustment Screw Hole

Having completed the re-build of the engine, we attempted to adjust the CIS mixture screw atop the fuel distributor, and found that there is a plug in it, or something is plugging it up. At any rate, can't insert the Allen-head adjuster.

Is there any way to remove the plug, short of dropping the engine again? Can't even see it, as the sound-deadening pad is in place, and there's very little room to look.

From '81 on, the access hole in the FD for mix adjust has an anti-tamper plug to prevent adjusting. (Emission control, air quality) The plug needs to be drilled out. Use a 2mm drill bit, carefully drill into the ALU core of the steel plug 3.5mm deep, then screw a small sheetmetal screw into the plug and try to extract. Bentley SC manual 240-8. Yes, you have to drop the engine enough to fit the drill motor with an extra long drill bit. It has to be done very carefully.

Andras- your car must be one of the very few that still has the plug intact.
