One-size-fits-all CAN'T possibly be the best setup for your car. It might be better but... Go the extra bucks and get a custom setup chip-Steve Wong.

Hi,
I have a 1979 911 engine in my Porsche. I have looked on 911parts.com, but they only supply chips for cars from 1984 thru 1987. Where can I find a performance chip that is suitable for a 1979 engine?

Matt

Matt,

Unfortunately you won't. Your motor uses CIS injection rather than the computer controlled fuel and ignition system (Motronic) first used in the 3.2L Carrera.

Hi Ralph,
Thanks for the reply. What is a CIS injection, and what does it do?
This is my first Porsche (also my very first car) so I do not know a lot about it.

Thanks,
Matt

Wow. Your first car is Porsche! How cool is that?
Be careful. I destroyed 6 cars before I was 22 and had 17 before my first PCar.

Matt, Welcome to the board and congratulations on your purchase.

Here's an excellent primer on the 911 CIS system: http://members.rennlist.com/jimwms/CIS/CIShome.html

....and you're required to post pics of your car. We want pics....

Hi Mark and Rick,
Thanks for the replies and the CIS info. My porsche is a 1986 turbo look cabriolet with a 1979 3.0 engine. The owner before the previous owner made this car a project car by adding 1986 features and a 79' engine. Here are some photos of the P-car, that I have only had for about 3 weeks!

Matt

Matt, nice car and welcome aboard. You have already passed one test by posting pics. Judging by the pic of you in the car, you will be a "junior member" long after your first 100 posts.

Por_sha 911,
Thanks for the comments. I do not know much technically about the car, but when I bought it, it was the only Porsche with no oily-engine smell, and low miles. The price was also very good, although it did have a 3.0 engine. I also looked at a red 84' targa, a blue 83' coupe and a red 86' targa. The 86' targa had 150K miles on it, the blue 83' had rough interior, and a rough engine (not a good back and forth to school car), and in the '84 targa, the seats weren't too comfortable, and the interior was in rough condition. Thats my story on picking the car that I currently have!

I'm sure I won't! That was really not my purpose of buying a Porsche though. I just always liked (and still like) Porsche for its heritage... style... and performance like most of everybody else on the board who owns a Porsche.

Those sure as heck look like 930 exhaust tailpipes? What gives?

Nice car, btw.

Please remember that this car is VERY difficult to drive fast. The rear end will come around on you very easily, especially on wet pavement.

You do NOT have to drive fast to impress anybody. People will want to race you in Mustangs and such at every stoplight. DONT DO IT!!!!

You can get killed very easily in this car. I know, I am a doctor in a large operating room and I see kids your age die all the time from injuries from MVAs from driving too fast.

PLEASE drive carefully and go to a driving school if possible (ie Bondurant).

I am sending my kids there.

Good Luck

Nice car Matt, thanks for the pics. (I still haven't posted any of mine yet!)

Welcome to the board. Great guys here willing to help with anything.

But like I hinted at earlier and Joehand1 states above, BE CAREFUL.

Don't be afraid of your car, that can be just as bad as being overly confident, but please consider a DE or two.
