Got my new muffler on today (pic)-whatdaya think?

I took the car down to the muffler shop with straight headers, and came beck with the new Fabspeed muffler installed. First of all, it's a little louder than my previous dual out setup (no headers), but it's a higher pitch-I'd say it's a WAIL!

My car truly sounds like an exotic now, if that doesn't sound egotistical. I was pretty amazed. They could use my sound if they do a remix of the movie LeMans! Quite a change. It feels a little less peppy below 3.5K, but I don't have my O2 sensor on yet, and I'll need to send my chip back to Steve W. for remapping. But, it revs smoother and seemingly quicker at the upper 1/2 of the tach.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on the fact the muffler will get painted flat black very soon.

Looks cool Ed!

All we need now is a sound clip!

Cheers,

Tim.

That looks very nice. Did you have to cut the rear valance to fit it? I had to when I fitted mine and the guy who works in the butchers shop across the road came out and started telling me off, saying it was a sacrilege to do that do a 911. But then he forgave me once he heard it...
Enjoy the burble

I'd already cut the valance for the previous muffler.

My new camera can record mpegs, but I need to "host" them on another server don't I? I'm serverless.

I don't think I'd argue the issue with a butcher.

Looks good.

Isn't the Fabspeed a Flowmaster base unit (?)

It may be a Flowmaster, Fabspeed welded a nameplate over it.

No Paul, that is our "Fall Wreath" even though it is prior to 9/21, and it's still in the 90's here. I'm sure that I'll be asking my wife to hold off on the Christmas wreath 'til after Thanksgiving in early November.

I was going to ask the same question! I know what my next welding project will be (didn't Mark Wilson post a sound clip of his Flowmaster?)

I thought Fabspeed had stopped using Flowmasters, and were making all their own parts, now -- but I could be mistaken.

It looks breat, but I'm biased in that direction.

Have you thought about painting it black?

Then you can benefit from my experience, since I'm currently using a high-temp paint that is terrible and keeps flaking off.

The best I've found is the "Black Velvet" paint made by POR-15. I used it on my old stainless B&B unit, and it held up really well.

Thanks Jack-I'll order some of that. I get the Griot's Garage catalog, and while I think they're pirates, they've got a new brush on paint-super high temp that I was going to try-probably private-labeled POR.

Question: Did/do you have any resonance in the B&B headers? I've got a short blast at 2.5-3K. Joe F. thinks its the headers resonating and suggested heat wrap to attenuate the tone. The rest of the spectrum sounds great, but I've got to take my wife out from time to time...

Yes, I get an increased drone in the 2k-3k range. When I want to eliminate it, I cap one of the two outlets. It's not nearly as bad as I got with the Fabspeed dual out, but it's there.

Here's a direct link for the paint.

General FYI -

With the 3.6/B&B 1.75 headers/Flowmaster exhaust there is a huge resonance between 2,200 & 3,200 -
