Fixed sunroof, but now a question (a small story)

Well I took my car in today to have the mixture adjusted so that I'd pass Aircare. That all went fairly smoothly and I ended up passing no problem! yay!

On the way back to shop after Aircare (mechanic had me get it tested sans airfilter), I was attempting to close the sunroof and it seemed a little under-powered. I had to blip the button and the end a couple times to get the back end to rise up to the roof line. After a couple more back a forths the sunroof was now barely moving at all! So I ask the mechanic if you knows much about the power sunroofs on these cars. He tells me I'll have to bring it in again when he's got more time. Great, more money. Back at work I attempt to push the thing into place while holding the close button but it just won't go the last inch. I decide to unzip the headlined and have a peek. I notice the roof motor and a small gear unit that it's attached to. There's a large screw in the center of this unit that's quite loose so I grab a screwdriver, tighten her up and VIOLA! Sunroof works again!

Anyways, I felt pretty cool.

But, the felt trim around the top side of the sunroof got munged a bit in the back and forthing. I can fix the bit that are attached to the sunroof hole but the bits that are attached to the moving roof section I need better access to. Is it hard to remove the sunroof in order to do this??

Thanks,

Nix.

Don't you just love that kind of repair?

It's not difficult. Open the sunroof 4". Then pull down the headliner and push it back out of the way. Once you have done this it's pretty easy to see what you have to loosen to take out the panel.

There is more info in the Bentley manual, or in a book on 911 restoration by Peter Morgan. There may also be some pics if you do a search, and there is an exploded view in the tech aea of this site.

Good luck.

Once you have the roof open a few inches, carefully pry (Pull) the roof liner down along the front edge. It is held there with a series of small spring clips. Then slide the liner back into the rear of the main roof section. This wil reveal the inside of the sunroof allowing you to disconect it and lift it out the top. It is fairly straightforward once you get the liner pushed back how to unbolt and remove the roof. If you get in there and get stuck, give me a call. 604 313 3494
