Porsche Crest Will SSi's for 3.6 fit 3.0?

Will SSi's for a 3.6 vario fit on a 3.0 engine with minor modification?

I don't believe they make SSI's for a 3.6. But I could be wrong.

There is a guy selling some from his 3.6. He said I would need to change oil lines and longer studs.

Are you sure he has a 3.6 and are you sure he said SSI's and not just factory heat exchangers. In any event if it is a 3.6 SSI does not make a heat exchanger for that engine and stock 3.6 heat exchangers will not fit your 3.0. Maybe he means a 3.2 engine.

Ah now it makes sense. SSI does make heat exchangers for a 3.6 transplanted into an earlier 911. Pelican sells them. Pelican lists them as different stock numbers than for the 3.0 and 3.2 engines. Should fit, but may have problems plumbing the heat. Maybe someone else will jump in here.

I think Bill V ran SSI's on his 3.6 until he went with headers.

Heat is rather important. The guy told me the flanges are pretty thick but that other than that they should fit. Don't wanna waste money.

Yes, there are 2 basic models of SSI thick flange and thin. Either can be used on a 964 3.6 or 911 3.0. At worst studs will need to be swapped.

A 964 3.6 will want thick flange SSI, so assuming theat is what is there the 3.0 will need the longer studs to acccomodate the thick flanges. If they are not present then swap spome long ones in , not a big deal.

Now the part about the vario is confusing because the 993 vrams have reversed stud pattern on the right bank of cylinders. I hope that the studs were changed to accomodate the SSI pattern and not vice versa.

Are these SSI's headers here or are they just heat exchangers?

I think they are standard thick flange SSIs that have had one side of the heater exchanger tin changed to use the later ducting (single side off the top of the fan) instead of the earlier two side ducts. Bill's pictures is a great example of the standard thick flange 'early tin'. Heck it looks like everything is there, so you should be set. A very good price if it stays in that range for the SSIs and the muffler.
Good luck with your bidding, and watch out for some guy on eBay that goes by 'unimog' sniping you. (just kidding I already have a set)

Don't the thick flange SSI's have a section that goes into the exhaust port? A type of tapered cone?

Someone got a good deal! The SSI's there are worth more than the price of the auction without the muffler nor heat ducting.

Mine do. And the stock exchangers do too, that you see further up. I have heard people call them 'gasket savers' or 'gasket sleeves'. I think their purpose is to keep pressure off the gaskets and they may create a smoother flow.

I can't see why it wouldn't work without the sleeves tho.
