Yeah, that was FUN! Karate, what happened to you and your bud? We have to do this again soon, it's been too long since the last drive. Great seeing everybody again and meeting new Pelicans.

It was great meeting you guys.
I turned around with Kman.
Yes, Chris too many rocks

I had a good time as well.
Thanks to Chris for allowing me to ride shotgun.
I learned I do better as a driver than a passenger though. Trying to use a camera while riding is no different than trying to read while riding: a sure ticket to nausea. I managed to retain my breakfast though! Chris said I l was looking pretty green.

I'll post some photos to this thread later (maybe tomorrow). I need to go pick up my wife from the airport now.

Good to meet you too, jtkkz. We've done Mines Rd many times so please feel free to suggest a different route for the next drive.

Looking forward to those pics Brad. You held on to your cookies pretty well. I'd have blown it big time if I were taking the pics.

jtkkz 09-19-2004 08:18 AM

I have only been to Mines Rd. once before, so definitely not familiar with that road.

My brother who is a rgruppe member new someone who test drove porsches for Excellence magazine showed us the roads were they test drove the cars they wrote about in the magazine.

We did the drive and it was really nice and scenic, It was a long drive close to 300 miles round trip from Fremont.

We went through highway 1 bodega bay, up the coast and into sonoma, etc. The road that cuts into sonoma was were they test drove the cars, very secluded. In fact they do not want many people knowing about it. Wide windy roads and flat.

I will try to get my brother to show us that tour again soon.

PS: No small rocks, so less worry about rock chips. :)

Toby, I was wonderin if I could get a copy of the video from in car. I could convert it and then post it and put it up on here for everyone.

braddb_82SC 09-19-2004 11:32 AM

Ok, I've uploaded my photos from yesterday's drive to my website:
http://www.montereydiving.com/bardrives.html

Here is my attempt at an artistic screen backdrop. 1024x768 version is on the web page.

Also, the bumper-cam video from the last drive is included on the May 24 Mines Rd drive page.

brad, great shots of the line up from the rear on tesla headong back into livermore. very artsie......

well my brain fart will be costing me a new front rt tire, $122 shipped. got it debeaded and reset to no avail. i bubbled the inner area of the tire. i was able to inspect the rim though during the process and found it to be in fine shape.

Jay, If you have a lap top and the 5 prong cord that goes from the camera to a computer you can come by my house and download video. i have never downloaded from the camera so i dont have what it takes. matt might be able to tell you what you need, he tried it one time with his computer and we did not have the right cord to innerface the two. its a jvc digital tape unit. if you want model numbers to see what it takes through the jvc site let me know.

i was considering getting the new tire shaved to match tread depth of the 2000 miles wear they have but another $40 to pull rubber off the tire seemed like a waste of money and shipping time. so a new one will go on this week. sucks being a dumb ass.

OH!! and by the way, congrats to doug (spud) for the birth of his daugher on 9/14. great shot of the proud papa and big sister.

Definately a fun ride -- can't wait for the next one.

Best of all, my first tatste of trailing throttle oversteer ended up being a non-event! :)

I'm trying to remember which segment it was on -- definitely before the Junction.

I was going into a left turn way too fast, and there was a drop-off off the side of the road. I got on the brakes good and hard, but was still going too fast for my liking for the turn. I initiated the turn without getting off the brakes fully, and next thing I hear is the squealing of rubber from the rear.

I don't think the rear broke loose THAT much, but it was enough where I got off the brakes, gave it some gas, and snapped the wheel right of center, and got the rear planted again.

On the last segment before Patterson, I got a little loose at one point, but not enough to get the tires squealing.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I am blessed :p

Looking forward to the next autox, maybe it'll be raining? That'd be a hoot :)

cbeers 09-20-2004 01:36 PM

Sweet Gar, sounds like you made a good recovery. I had thoughts of "what if" looking at those drop offs too. Had a few power fish tails, but nothing tooooo bad ;)

Glad to have met all of you and look forward to another outing!

It's amazing how much a long drive can get you back in connection with your car. I appreciate it so much more after a long fast drive on curvy roads.

cbeers:

I just remember I think I saw your car parked at RMG a Thursday morning three weeks ago. Can't be too many red/tan 87 targas with a painted rollbar around there, can there? good to meet you.

Hope to see all you guys again soon,

/ Johan
