Can 964 fan+housing fit 3.2 Carrera?
Hi folks,
I have a crack in my fan housing of my 87 Carrera. Since I have to buy a replacement housing, would a 964 12blade fan and housing (with alternator changed too) fit into my Carrera? Has anyone else done this? Thks! |

The Carrera fan flows more air @ a given rpm than the 964 fan. Why would you want to switch?

Hi Bill,
Thks for the info. I actually thought the 964 fan flows more air (new design, 12 blade fan, etc etc). Other thing I noticed is that there are 2 belts (one for fan and one for alternator) which makes the conversion even harder as I have air con on my car. Any idea why the 964 uses separate belts for fan and alternator? Thks! |

No, the new design apparently went into noise reduction technology.

Bill's comment that the Carrera fan flows more air is interesting. So would changing over to a CArrera fan on a 3.6 be considered an upgrade? Is this a feasible "backdate"?

Hmmm, well you really don't need it do you? I think they are different sizes, but with cubic dollars nearly anything can be adapted.

l`ve always heard that the 964 fans flow less air at the expense of noise reduction, but still allow adequate cooling. They look better then the earlier fans though, don`t they?

hi Raceman,
hmmm....YES (Homer's voice). Yup, thats one reason why I was thinking of the 964 fan since my housing is cracked. My wrench tells me its plug and play but the belts need to be changed But if the airflow is reduced...... |

After reading through these:
Any aftermarket highperf. fans available? I really find myself missing Roland's input!
