Unprotected?
Got ya!
No this is not about STD's. My 83 Cab started as a ROW with the 930/10 engine etc. The engine has been replaced/rebuilt and I've recently rebuilt it myself. The markings on the block indicate 930/16 but the engine retains it's original ROW CIS (Kbasic, no lambda) Because of the 930/16 numbers on the block (The root of much confusion and many problems)the PO's wrench put some parts on it that were for that engine. Including the Ignition distributer. The car also has Permatune ignition. So, to my point: I believe I am running un-protected. (No rpm limiter.) The ROW car would have had the distributer and rotor simular to the US 78-79 including only 1 vaccumm connection (Advance I think) The special rotor provided the over-rev protection. The 81-83 (Maybe 80 too) US had the over-rev protection by way of the CD box I think. (I think there may have been something else involved.) So my question: How do I get protected? Will the 78-79 rotor with the over=rev mechanism fit inside my 81-81 distributer? Do I need to get a different cap also? Does the permatune solve this problem? Is there a way to set it up? I think the rotor pelican sells has a limit of 6500. Is there one that is higher? I think the ROW engine had a redline of 7000. Help me get protected! Thanks!

The short answer is yes it will fit, and YES you should have one. There was just a thread about this a few days ago where I posted some information along with several other threads with lots of good information about the rev limiting rotors in SCs. Here is the thread: ROW SC rev limiting rotor
I don't know if the Permatune has over-rev protection, but it can't hurt to add the rotor on top of it if it does.
