What are these two wires for?

I am in the middle of replacing my cyclinder head temp sensor on my 84 Carrera, and like every one else that has done this, wresteld with removing the grommet. I finaly got the thing out (which I will describe in a later post) and got to thinking.

There are two other black larger wires that go though the same gromment, and since I never want to remove that grommet again in my lifetime I was wondering if it made sence to replace those other two wires but I don't know what they are or if they might need to be replaced at some time. My guess is that they might be speed and reference sensors since it looks like they are inputs to the DME like the temp sensor. Thanks.

Yes, they are just that...

You need not replace them (~US$100 each) but if you want to take preventative measures and your p-car is mature in miles (>100K) the cost might be justified... (?)

use some wet style silicone spray on the grommets and they will slip right in.

The engine has 138K miles on it so I would liketo verify the cost of replacement. Anyone know if Pelican sells the sensors. I can seem to find them. I will definitely use the silicone spray tip. Thanks

I am sure our 'Good Host' has these in stock...

To be sure, get the Bosch brand only (same part # for both sensors) list price is ~ US$150 each

Yep...

to keep your knuckles iinjury free and swearing to a minimum apply some silicon grease on the grommet that fits into the engine bay
