Attempted theft

So I thought I'd do a favor for the wife and return some items at the Paseo mall in Santa Barbara today. Couldn't find parking in the open on the side streets so I sucked it up and parked in the mall parking garage...wide berth, passenger side against a wall. I return 15 min later to hear my Clifford alarm wailing away. (It's never gone off before.) I check out the car, no signs of theft attempt, and I drive off. I did see a garage security golf cart thing with lights flashing driving down the garage but he was driving away from my car, so I didn't get too worried at the time. Hmmm.

But when I got home I noticed two greasy hand smears near the top of the passenger window, as if someone had been looking in, or more probably, shaking the car to test the alarm.

Question: Do thieves shake cars to see if the alarms go off?
Either way, I ain't parking there again. The only thing visible in the car was the blaupunkt. Close one. Sheeeeeeiiiit!

Maybe they were trying to push the window down trying to get inside???

Maybe so. Could they actually push electric windows down? Or maybe they were trying to just force it inward to break it? Wish I saw the hand smears at the mall. I would've talked to the security guys.

Santa Barbara has had a recent rash of car thefts where the car is stripped then torched.....three scumbags have been arrested and a chop shop closed down.

I called the mall security today out of curiosity. They were oblivious to my alarm and had no reports of vandals/thieves yesterday. Next time I'll take a different car unless I can keep an eye on it.
