Help me spend 40-50k on daily driver by Nov,1

Hi,
I have decided not to lease a new car and want to find a nice pre owned p- daily driver. My 74 is taking too long to finish - I underestimated my time with two kids under two. I have between 40,000- 50, 000 to spend and I live in Baltimore Maryland. Not looking for anything older this time, it has to get me to the office reliably. Thanks

In that price range, you could buy a new Boxster or a used 996, 993, 964, etc. The Boxster or 996 would make great daily drivers.

Hold out for the new Boxster. 240hp with an MSRP around $46k....

993 or a 996...the best one you can find for 45K. I would be looking for a late model 993.

Not here in the US, unless you can find an ultra rare US 964 cup car (not sure on the value)

If you want a comfortable (but still sporting) car, buy a 993. If the comfort is enough for you for a daily, just spend $12-18k on a nice SC or Carrera 3.2

buying a new boxster is just going to kill you on depreciation. Some people don't seem to mind, but I really hate depreciation. Plus the 993 is a better car anyway, unless you can afford a GT3.

My vote is a nice 993. I think these will continue to hold in value better than your average vehicle, even a high end one. Plus they sound so sweet...

do you have to haul the kids? That would seem to be a major criteria...

Oh I totally agree, but I was spending *his* money, not mine. If I had that kind of money (it'll never happen), I would buy a low mileage RS America and have money left over to club race my '76... :>)

I would buy a 89 Speedster and a fresh 3.6 motor

Slap the 3.6 motor in and drive it daily.

When time for sale comes, slap in Original enigne.

Good point. And if so? Lexus, since you stressed reliability.

Ed,

You should be able to get a very clean 993 in that price range (C4S or C2S, even). Enjoy the search!

Why in the hell did you bring up that name? Thats like saying "GOD DAMN IT" right in the middle of the sermen at sunday morning church. Lexus? Ok, lugury, space, i'll give you. But handling? Its as far from it as you can possibly get! There is absolutly 100% no road feel, or any feedback whatsoever! Its the other side of the spectrum, the "total lacking of fun while you drive spectrum" Its about the closest sensation of how the asian culture works. Don't bother with anyone else but yourself. I appologize if i have offended anyone, but if you have driven over there once....JUST ONCE, or even were a passenger, you cannot argue with what i'm saying.

Sorry, Don.

Hello, I am forwarding a note from Mr. Neil Ambrosia:

I have just what you are looking for. If you would please get together $45k in cash and leave it in garage right near whatever nice P-car parts you might have there, I will stop by and drop off your daily driver soonest. I unfortunately cannot stop by when you are home. I will drop off a nice 2004 ... umm, black, no, red, well, whatever color you like Boxster or whatever. I have it right here. I will also throw in some spare wheels, etc. I happen to have for cheap -- they were a steal. I think you'll find me very charming.

Agreed, you will be able to get a very nice 993 for $45k...even a mint C4 narrowbody for inclement weather driving. $45-$50k for a C4S or C2S is definitely doable, the mileage for that price range is likely to be in excess of 50k miles.

I have a '95 C4 daily driver and it's never let me down.

BRG, I think you underestimate the cost of an 89 speedster and "slapping in" a fresh 3.6.

Sounds like a way cool car but I don't think it could be done for 45-50K and last I checked one couldn't just slap in a 3.6 or slap it out for that matter. I bet it is a bit easier on an 89 platform though witht he G50 in place already.

Why do you already want to sell your car by the way?

My Money for 45-50 K for a daily driver would be spent on a very nice 993, a turbo c2 or perhaps a used Pepper Wagon...but only if I also had a nice weekend use 911 coupe.
