Idle Problems

My 3.2 is surging at idle. Goes from 900 - 1100RPM every second. Very annoying. Bentley says a high idle (1200) is a defective switch but doesn't mention the surge issue.

Any suggestions? (Be nice...);)

I had the same exact problem on my 84 3.2L. I had to upgrade the cylinder head tempature sensor from the old single wire to the newer 2 wire sensor. It took care of the surging.

buddy of mine did all sorts of stuff. ZOANAS. maybe do a search under his name. i seem to remember his issue was fixed with a mixture adjustment.

Mike,

Where did you get the Sensor? How much?

Thanks.

Vash,

Thanks for the input. Will search out ZOANAS.

Jorian.

Also, check your ICV (do a search). It can be cleaned (Cost is a little carb cleaner and some time).

When was the last time the O2 sensor was replaced? Also good advice from Joe on cleaning the ICV.

Before adjusting the mixture, you might want to set the idle adjustment screw. Steve Wong provides a pretty good explaination here (about halfway down):

Jorian,

Here is a link to a post I made yesterday that has the part number for the sensor.
