Post Valve Adjustment 'Miss"

'86 Carrera 3.2, 98K miles, well maintained, fair weather and occasional DE driven.

Brought the car in to my local mechanic ( well regarded, highly experienced, PCA Club Racer who has always treated me fairly and done good work) for a valve adjustment, oil change and DE tech inspect.

Got a call after the valve adjustment and he asked if I had noticed a "miss" before I brought it in - answer was I don't think so ( these subtle noises can creep up and not get noticed in an already noisy car). He said he was going to adjust the valves again.

We took a test ride when I picked up the car, and there was a low pitched sound/ vibration , he said it went away as the engine got warm and sealed itself. I noticed the engine vibration on the way home, something I'm pretty sure wasn't there before I brought it in. It did smooth out as the engine got warm.

Power is good, feels better than before the VA and car pulls well.

His theory omn the cause is that the head studs are weakening " stretching" and that I should expect some breakage sooner or later. I don't look forward to the expense of replacing the head studs and all of the other "should do's".

Any ideas on the diagnosis?

Any other areas I should look into myself? My mech ability/facilities go past tune up but not to valve adjustment (obviously).

Inputs appreciated.

I bet you don't have a spark plug boot on right.

Or it sould be one valve adjusted too tight so it isn't closing all the way -> no compression on that hole.
