Engine upgrade

Hi ,

I have to some research and have decided to do a 2 stage upgrade due to financial difficulties.

1st stage) replace stock turbo to k27-7200 or kokeln, kokeln intercooler, k&N filter and a fabspeed muffler .(keeping the 0.8 bar spring)

2nd stage) after market header

What is the performance gain you do guys expect for stage one over the stock turbo and will the k27-7200 with a fabspeed muffler great reduce the lag of the original setup ? And do i need to dyno for adjusting the CIS system after this modification ??

thanks all..!

regards,
Lai

With all due respect, I'd kindly suggest that you do "Stage 2", well before "Stage 1".

That makes a bigger difference and ensures that the "cart is behind the horse" in your course of upgrades.

Thanks Steve.

Can i just bolt on the header and exhaust without tuning and running lean ? (ie adjusting the fuel supply)

Installing the header/muffler will not make a turbocharged engine go lean; boost levels will.

The header muffler systems such as B&B & GHL make a big big difference in boost lag reduction and mid range power so that should at the very top of your list.

If you raise boost, you WILL need to add more fuel.

thanks steve,

Will it be better to even de-cat the car with the header installed ?

What are the main differences between a header with and without heat exchanger? my vehicle is in malaysia which get 36 degrees temperature all year round. So, shall i go for one without heat exchanger?

Beside that, have you got any design of good headers for sale ? this is because will be able to get one made by my friend in order to cut cost.(provided there is a diagram on the thickness, materials, size and dimension of the header.)

regards,
Lai

Lai:

Using the B&B or GHL header/muffler combos precludes the use of a cat and in fact, those really hurts throttle response & power on a 930.

These exhausts are simply a short tube, 3-into-1 header with a stainless steel shroud for heat and defrost over them. We also sell them without the shrouds.

My apologies; we do not have any ready-made streetable headers for 930's are they are all done a custom basis for race cars.

Do you mean that the B&B and GHL header do not use the CAT and this is not an advantage in term of performance and throttle response...?

Yessir, that is true,....no room nor provisions for a cat.

Cats are an anathema to any turbocharged engine,...

I just dont get it, i thought removing a CAT is benefitting the 930 turbo rather than having one. If that is the case, why is that without CAT will hurt performance and throttle response?

LOL,...You'll never hear me say to ANY Turbo owner to install a cat & muffler for improved performance,.....

I cannot tell you where you heard that fable, but its singularly untrue.
