It's good to have a rev limiter!
Yesterday morning I left work about sunrise and was looking forward to my favorite long sweeping two lane freeway onramp with an uncrowded freeway. Just as I was getting on the ramp, a friend in his new AMG Mercedes (don't know the specific model) blew by me with a huge grin on his face.
I decided to give chase and hit the gas in second gear then quickly shifted to third and stomped on the accelerator. I was closing on him so fast that I forgot to shift to fourth. The rev limiter engaged and the cut-off was instant. When I looked at the tach I felt like a world class idiot. The motor is fine, so no damage done. It's amazing how quickly that little car gets to redline. Almost instant. I am grateful to the Porsche engineers who anticipated that on occasion, their cars would be driven by morons.
