early sport seats - my dilemma, need advice
I have two early recaro sport seats and brackets I wish to sell. They are not a pair, as they are both driver’s side seats. They are vinyl. One is in exceptional condition, the other needs repair to the left bolster and the seat is soft (but no tears).
So here is the dilemma which I need advice on… I want to sell them and I want to get as much as I can for them. Having said that I do not want to price them foolishly (i.e. greedily). I want to offer them first to pelican members… and I do not want to get flamed…. I will say that again… I do not want to get flamed. Can I have it all? So please no offers… I only want well considered sage-like advice and possible suggestions for market value. here is a picture of the poorer of the two. ![]()

I paid $260 each to get mine recovered....Yours look to be in great shape.....I'd venture in the $400 (US) ballpark....

Hmmm....this thread will get a lot longer I'm sure.
I would pay in the neighborhood of $1500 for these, if I were in the market. Any more and I would hold out for a left and a right. What exactly is the difference, just the location of the slider lock?

Given that they are both driver's, I'd say $1500 is probably fair. Wish I had the dough. Open to trades?
Anyone see these: They are about 45 minutes away if anyone is serious about pre-bid inspection. Note: no affiliation whatsoever with the auction.

Why not sell them seperately for twice the love? Seriously I think a few people wouldn’t mind a single sport seat for the driver w/ stock passenger seat. Just decide what price you want & if its fair someone will buy them. If its unreasonable decide whether you want to keep them or offer them for less.

Derek,
those are a pair, what you have there are 68 style recaro sport seats, they didn't make a passenger side sport seat till 69 98% of all 68 style sport seats were drivers side only, so if you ordered a pair you received two drivers seats 67 was the first year of the reclining sport seat in 68 D.O.T. made all cars sold in the U.S. have headrests in 69 porsche changed the bases and sliders to a much heavier design even though these seats are not correct for 69 - 73 911's they would fit and work just fine

Sam, did all 69-73 sport seats have two locking sections/clips (either side of seat frame) that the tip handles moves when tipping the seat?
Also were all the seat belt fixings on the base the same from 69-73 ? Thanks Alan.UK PS the pic of the recaro above looks like a 72 seat due to the oval/shaped head rest.

Alan, I recall an earlier thread indicating that only the 73 sport seats locked both sliders. Because of this, I assume that my sport seats are from a 69-72 (only locks on one side). The seat belts appear to attach the same way as shown in the last pic Sam provided.

Thanks Jim,
I have several sets of 69-72 recaros and the other thing which is different to the early style is the size of the base pad and width of the back centre section. (see pics) The later seats have a smaller base pad and narrower back section. The later seats feel more supportive (IMO). I have also seen quite a few early seats with the recaro badge on the rear support and thus believe this to be original. There does also seem to be changes in the 69-72 years aswell, but this could be because some of the seats I have been reviewing have been re-trimmed. Other things I have noticed is that on some seats the metal cover over the seat mech, are mostly finished in matt black, but some are also in chrome. Here are a few pics The first two are early seats, on Sam's pic look at the width of the bottom pad which is the same as my single early seat (pic 2). Also Sam's pic shows how the back pad is quite square. The next set of pics show post 69 seats (69,71 and 72) and how the back section becomes more narrow at the bottom and the base pad also differs. Oddly enough pic2 seems to have a combination of the two, narrow back and early flatter base. Pic 3 is a seat which has just been re-trimmed in leather. The final 3 pics are recaros from my 69 S, 71 S and a 72S. Alan.UK ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Alan.UK; 09-22-2004 at 04:53 AM.. |

69 to 71 are single locking 72 to 73 are double locking also in 72 they changed the wiring so that you had to use the seat belt or the car wouldn't start

Sam, I have the wiring for the seat belt warning light, but only one-sided locking.

this is a perfect example of a 68 style sport seat, the one thing that gives it away as not having come from the factory in a porsche is the Recaro name badge the seats that were installed in cars didn't come with this badge, recaro sold this style seat on the aftermarket until sometime in the mid 70's it could be fitted to just about anything with the right base also this is the correct headrest for this seat even though it didn't show up in porsches until 72
![]() here is a link to the Recaro web site = http://www.recaro-nao.com/index_frames.html go to company then click on product gallery then click on car seats 70 to 79 then click on idealseat 1 you will see that Recaro not only made a standard seat but they also made a wide sport seat

Besides having no headrests and having a different base, those look like the standard seat shape as seen on factory porsche recaros. Do we know if the factory offered a wide reacro version, as seen in both seats we have posted which have the recaro badge or was that from recaro only ?
