Oil tank flushing?
I have a ca78S that has been setting for sometime. When I removed the oil drain plug from the oil tank, it was cover in muck.
Oil had been drained from tank car and just a small residual amt remained. I was wondering if I could give it a quick cleaning, if so How? Thanks Earl

If it's a magnetic drain plug, you will get "muck" in there just from driving. It's acutally very fine metal filings and may be totally normal.
If, however, you want to flush it out, you can probably pull your drain plug and blast some brake cleaner in there. You may also want to pull the soft hose which connects to the engine oil cooler. Give the brake cleaner a while to evaporate and pour a quart of new oil through there and drain it out again. good luck! Note: this is for your oil tank. I would not spray brake cleaner in to your engine sump!

To get mine clean (bought it from a junk yard, who knows whats in there!) I took it down to a local radiator shop and had it flushed out. It even smelled good by the time they were done. Cost me about $25 bucks.
