door jamb stricker plate question

the factory welded inside nuts and strap have broken/fallen out from behind the door jamb where the stricker plate mounts onto from the outside. short of cutting out the jamb has anyone had deal with this issue? i was thinking a tap and threaded backer plate could be fashioned then put up behind and the stricker plate installed by another person. would this work? would the stricker plate stay in place or would you have to also probably screw tap the plate to the jamb sheet metal as well??
any input would be greatly appreciated

You can actually reach in from the rear fender well opening and access the back side of the mounting holes and use nuts to solve your problem . At least it worked on my car .
