Engine Done, Photos Taken

Have finally completed the engine rebuild, and want to share with you guys.

Could someone please walk me through the process on posting a picture? Also, which format is the best; pdf, adobe, jpg, etc. I havew the last three, but the image is small (though can be blwon up on the screen, but I can't print it full size 8-1/2x11).

Woops, here it is on the bottom of the page.

Okay Guys, What am I doing wrong?

This is the picture of the completed engine taken with a black blanket as backdrop, but with print film, not a digital picture. I scanned the print, but the computer seems to want to make it the photo-full-size, not an image-full-size (see all the white area around the image?).

How do I get it to fill ther screen (which makes the shot that much more "beeeeutiful)?

Andras-

When you scan the pic, there should be a selection box (dotted square) that you position over just the photo and adjust (by dragging with your mouse) to fit the outside edge of the photo. It looks like your selection box is allowing it to scan the entire surface of the scanner bed.
Saving as a .jpg is typical for the web. 640 X 480 is a pretty good size.

Hope that helps.

I do not know, maybe you can open the photo in paintbrush or some kind of photo software then scale it and re save it?

Here are some shots of my rebuild I just completed. Here are some jpegs straight that I loaded onto my computer with a card reader then posted to this forum without any additional manipulation.

Who did your rebuilds and what was the cost? I have snapped head studs on my SC and am trying to decide between rebuild and dropping in a used 3.2.

If the questions are for me, I did the work myself. The car is a recently purchased 79 SC that ran but had some issues when I purchased it.

I originally dropped the engine to fixed some awful previously cobbed exhaust manifold studs.

As I got into the job I found a bent #5 rod probably due to a hydrolock
at some point. This cylinder and piston had some bad scuffs. The crank and bearing were showed no damage believe it or not!

I replaced the lower Divalar studs with steel ones (one of the old ones snapped when I was tearing it down).

I ended up replacing rod bearings and had a local shop balance 5 of my old rods along with one used rod that I bought. I purchased a used piston and cylinder that were in the same weight, height and diameter
range as mine. The cylinders measured half life wear and I reused them. I bought new rings also.

My cams had some mild pitting on the faces so I sent them to Elgin Cams to get reground to Sport SC grind. I bought 12 new rockers
and rocker seals.

After I welded up and repaired my exhaust manifold stud holes,
I had my valve guides replaced, valves ground, heads flycut (.006") by a local shop that had previous experience with 911s.

I found a bad carrera chain tensioner along with bad idler shafts which I replaced.

I bought a new Sachs clutch kit.

I cleaned and repainted my engine bay and installed new sound pad

I also had to rebuild my distributor. I spent quite a bit of time stripping/blasting/cleaning and repainting exhaust components, sheet metal, brackets etc. etc..

I have somewhere around $4000.00 in it so far and I hope to install and fire it up this weekend.

I have a ton of time in it but I like messing with this stuff.

Hi Tim,

It was not you who highjacked, so no apology needed.

I would love to share, and will do so with better pictures (I've had our computer whiz in the office help explain how to get the scan on the fuol page, not just the actual size of the print on the 8-1/2 x 11.

I do have digital images of the car prior to the rebuild, and during, but the only pics I have of the actual rebuilt engine are the photographs on paper. I suppose I could borrow a digital camera and shoot some images of the installed engine, but then I couldn't get the black background.

The one thing that I'm most happy with is the way that the engine photographs with a simple black blanket as a background. It's almost "studio quality", and allows us to focus only on the engine, and not on cluttered backgrounds. No slight intended to others, it's just that when we photo architectyural models, we do so with the black background, and you can make models look like the real think.. Just like our engines.

I'll post better photos and explanation soon.

Cheers.................Andras

1200 deg ceramic spray paint from a can. I think it was Plati-cote brand. You can buy it at just about any auto parts store. I blasted everything first. It may not hold up right by the heads but it will probably hold up pretty well everywhere else.

Is it the best? Probably not but it works for me and the price was right. Someday I will back date with nice shiny new ss but this looks fine considering these were all date stamped in 1978 and are original!

Is that Brian Kumomoto who enlarged the picture? Thanks Brian, long time no hear.

I tried to post another photo, after help from the other Mad Hungarian in our office (yes we have two of us, and we are now a Majority!!!), but we scanned it at 500 dpi, and the Pelican site couldn't download it. So it never got posted.

The other photos are from the 3/4 views, left and right, and one from a slightly more above view, as well as the engine drop showing the "before", so it is really cool to see this basically black and silver engine, with only the red of the fan shroud.

I'll try to get them on the BBS tomorrow.
