Porsche Crest Automatic Antenna from Carrera...How to test if it is good and are they rebuildable?

I have this Hirschmann automatic antenna (model 6000U 853-389073) from a Carrera (Porsche part number 911.645.033.??)and I have been trying to connect a 12 v power source to it to see if I can get it to go up and down to see if it still works. I would like to use it in my '77 911 if it works.

I have tried several combinations of connecting 12v to the red, black and white wires. I figure the red wire is 12v+ and the white and black wires are the switch circuit for the radio. I tried to connect the black and white together and used them as the 12v-, but no action w/ the antenna. I also tried to use the bracket as the 12v-, but the antenna still did not work when I did that and had the black and white wires connected.

It could be the antenna is burned out or I don't have the 12v power source connected right.

If it is burned out, is there any source for rebuilding these antennas and is it cost effective? Is there a source for parts?
What does it cost to have them rebuilt?

Thanks for any input.

Sounds like it's dead. Search eBay, you can get a replacement for around $50.

I don't have the sheet in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that the black is ground, red is constant +12 volts, and white raises the antenna when connected to + 12 volts and lowers when disconnected.

I was just trying to refurbish mine last night...

If I remember correctly...

...that's correct.

Thanks for the input. I will try that 12v combination to see if this puppy is still working. I will post the outcome.

Thanks for the insight into how to correctly apply 12v to the Hirschmann automatic antenna I have.

I hooked it up the way you said and the antenna goes up and down no problem...how about that!

Now...I need to hook it up to a dinosaur stock '77 Blaupunkt and get it to turn on at the same time I turn on the stereo. The previous antenna had a separate switch to actuate the antenna separate from the radio. I don't think my radio has a "power out" wire that is hot only after the radio switch is turned on. I would have to get inside the radio to loop out a pigtail that is hot only after the switch is on if I don't want the antenna to automatically come up when the ignition key is turned on. I guess that wouldn't be so bad since I usually turn on my favorite station anyway.

I don't plan on buying a new stereo as the stock one is fine and I don't collect CD's or need to have any other entertainment other than my favorite FM stations.

Any one know if the stock '77 Blaupunkt radios had 12v power out wires that were designed for automatic antennas in 1977?

Thanks again to everyone for the input.

Skip-That's the one. It was pretty straightforward. The hardest part is working out which adapters to use as it's a universal fit.
