Heated Oxygen Sensor Cycle Time or always on?

Greetings,

I've got my 3.6 installed [finally] and it was running yesterday. Still sorting out a few things on the car, so no road test yet. One item that I am puzzling over is how long the O2 sensor heater normally is energized. I'm guessing that it is on the order of 5 minutes, but that is really a WAG! Some documentation I have read seem to imply that the sensor is heated all the time so that it does not cool off at idle. I'm also assuming that the heater uses 12VDC.

Anyone know the straight scoop?

Thanks!
