'79 930 Air Valve Connection

Can anyone confirm that the nipple on the Air Valve for a 1979 930 has no hose connection?

Mine is not connected to anything, which doesn't sound right, but the parts diagram (see blue arrow pointing to #52 in the picture) seems to confirm this is how it should be.

Thanks in advance.

That's the decel valve.
Yes, there is a hose that connects to the middle nipple. If memory serves it runs to the throttle body. This valve is not manditory. It allows the engine to decellerate slowly when the throttle is abruptly cut.

Thanks for the reply. I believe the decel valve is #28 in the image. Both look similar. I notice that some later versions of the air valve do not have the middle nipple.

Anyone out there with a '79 930 US model mind checking your air valve for a hose on the nipple? The air valve is located to the right of the fuel distributor. Help is greatly appreciated.

Woops. You're right. The picture in your original post is not clear or complete on my monitor. The second picture is much better.

I do not know which air control valve that one is. I removed all of this stuff from my '78 engine long ago. The '78 and '79 were pretty much identical from all I can tell through the litterature. If no one has a quick answer for you I'll pull out my notes and schematics. My engine is (was) a California model and had every once of crap they could pile on it.

Thanks, Rarly8, but it looks like the California model is different.

In my schematics, the California model has a thermo valve (#6 in lower diagram) that connects to the nipple. The USA/Japan model show no nipple hose. I'm wondering if I have the correct Air Valve installed on my car - it looks as if it shouldn't have a nipple (#5 in upper diagram). That's easy enough to check.

Edit: I verified that the USA/Japan and California Air Valve part numbers are the same. Therefore, I can only conclude the nipple has no hose. I'm moving on.

I'm with you now. The California model has an added Thermol Valve controlling the length of operation of the AAV#5.
Yes, I do believe you can move on. Does HI require all this stuff on your car?

No, despite being the welfare state, the smog nazis have yet to establish a foothold.

Is the part in the center of the pic the one you're asking about?

Oops, here's the pic:

My engine's out, but this picture was taken moments after is was pulled so unless the missing vacuum hose runs to somewhere besides the engine, there was none. If I remember correctly, the only small diameter hose from the chassis to the engine was the one for the charcoal canister.
