917 Shift Knob Redux
I installed my new 917 style shift knob that "76911S" (Mark Cross) crafted for my G50 Carrera and I could not be more pleased.
The knob looks great, fits perfect, and feels very nice in my hand. And, since it is a replication of a knob used in one of the greatest racing Porsches of all time, it's practically OEM. Thanks again Mark! I will post some picks this weekend. Sincerely, Mike |
Thanks mike for the kind words. Can’t wait to see photos..
Mark.. |
Can't wait to get mine in!
|
Pls let us know when photos are available and how much the knob is!
Thx, JoeA |
Well, I think I got in trouble.. The 917 shift knob post with all the info and photos seams to have been eliminated.
|
here's one of the posts that show pics and info of the knob
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/178483-917-shift-knob.html Very nice! |
Thanks Alan!
Here are pictures of my knob and one mounted in my car.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1096990050.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1096990076.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1096990111.jpg I also sell the knobs as a bottle stopper. Goes great with that special bottle if vino! |
Just wanted to say that your indication "here's a pic of my knob" sounds just wrong..............
|
Yeah I know!I thought that after I wrote it.. Should be in another forum.
Okay then a pic of my shift knob. Sorry if I may have offended anyone, if I did, get your mind out of the gutter. |
Mark,
Are these still available? I'd love to purchase one. If you can, please PM with the specifics... Thanks, Dustin |
Mark,
Just wanted to let you know I recieved my 917 knob today and its already on the car. Looks great and feels great in hand. Nice work. What woods did you end up using? Thanks, Tom |
I have used Maple and Walnut, as well as Maple and Australian Blackwood. I use a Polyurethane glue so there will not be a problem with the laminations moving when a car gets heated up.
Glad you are happy with it Tom. Any chance of a photo of it mounted? Thanks.. Mark.. |

Wow! Now that’s red and black!!
Knob looks pretty good there. Boomer, maybe we should talk about a custom knob made from bloodwood and ebony. I could do vertical laminations as well. I like your pedals, which ones are those? |
Bought the pedals here...http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/pb/view_product?prod_id=0000000092&part_number=AJR%20 423%20113%20T&model_id=0026&ajr_skey=67827b1dfec22 596fc9de1a7b2538558
I like the idea on the different woods, you have way to much free time on your hands:D |
I got mine and I love the look but I wish it was a bit bigger. My orginal knob broke in to several pieces and I replaced it with a universal Dino until I could find something better. The 917 knob is definately better but I am so used to the larger grip size of the Dino that it feels very strange to have the 917 knob barely fill the palm area of my hand.
|
Boomer, I wished I had more time..This is what I do..
Jim, have you mounted it in your car? Bigger is not always better. I do make larger knobs as well though. (For those with a complex) :) |
Pics of one of my knobs in a customers 67 911S.
I thought it looked nice enough to post. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1098102938.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1098102960.jpg |
Thought I would share, Carl Thompson sent me these 917 interior photos so I can use them for my knobs..
