Fuchs Paint Measurements
Okay, before anyone says it, I know I should have measured this beforehand...
I've stripped and polished the wheels. Only thing is, the old black paint edges are now gone. I have 15x6's. I know from picking up a partial existing line that the lip edge is 1" from the outer rim. BUT, what is the distance for the paint lines on the side and outer edge of the paddles? Somebody point me in the right direction please. Jim

I'm pretty sure the Fuchs wheels were dipped to get the black paint profile. So if you have one known point you should be able to level the wheel in some kind of tub and fill with water to the known mark. Then trace the water line all around. I've never tried this but it might work.

BillM is correct. The wheels are dipped.
As a matter of fact, I'm thinking about making a tub to do this. David Duffield |

Al Reed purposely moves the paint line back away from the lip to expose a little more paddle or petal, whatever you want to call it.
I can say this, if the line is too high, or towards the outside, they will look worse. Better to error on the move-back side of the issue. David, do you know how many gallons of paint it will take to do this? That's a lot of money in paint you will only use a small % of. |

I read somewhere that spraying was better (more uniform) than dipping.

I will be spraying and have the paint ready to go. It's a matter of figuring out the tape lines. I can eyeball it, but I wanted to know if there was a precise measurement.
The dipping procedure makes sense, however, for DIY refinishing, it is neither economical or feasible. The outer rim is easy as it is a consistent one inch from the rim edge. The paddles are the problem. Jim
