Where to purchase oddball parts
So, I spent the last couple of hours tearing out parts of the heater ducting in the front of the car. Several of the old plastic parts are broken in several places, with the pieces missing so I can't just glue it back together. I don't know what the name of the parts are, but they are the plastic box in back of the brake master cylinder that directs the air from the defrost vents to the floor vents and the plastic piece that screws onto the chassis and is clipped to the first part.
My question is where do you go to find oddball parts like this? I haven't gone to the local Porsche dealership yet to find out if they even have them available (and at what price!), but was wondering if any of you had suggestions for finding these kinds of parts. There's probably not much demand for something like this, and Pelican doesn't carry it. Let me hear your suggestions. Doug

May I suggest you are being too negative in your assumptions. Can you locate the parts you need in the below figure?

Pelican doesn't carry it? Have you called them? In my experience our hosts can get anything the dealer can at a price much lower than the dealer. They have access to much more than what's shown in the online catalog.

Doug-- if Pelican can't get it or you're satisfied with used parts, you could also post a WTB (want to buy) in the classifieds) or call a dismantler (such as PartsHeaven or EASY here in the bay area)

Jim:
The parts I need are listed as # 18, specifically the # 18 at the lower right side (for the driver's side). I also need a # 18/1. It is the broken part on the passenger side of the car, and I don't need the whole # 18 assembly for that side. unclebilly: Nope, I haven't called them. I just assumed you could only get what they had in their on-line catalog. Learn something new every day. Wayne: Unfortunately, I can't tell you the part number. I'm still looking for a parts list for the '79 I own. When I find one, I might then be able to supply you with a part number. But first... Jamie: I'm sending you a PM. Everyone, thanks for your help. Doug

Oops...
Jamie, apparently I can't PM you. The parts I want I list in my previous post (refering to the drawing that Jim supplied in an earlier reply). Please PM me and let me know if you have those parts available. Doug
