Should I just buy a new tach - 72 w/3.0?

I have read (and printed out) all of the postings about TACHs and it seems that the early model transitorized tach just won't work well with a 3.0 wiring harness (6pin) without playing around with speed sensors/ballast/6pin/3pin/CDI/CDS/aluminum can/round relay...

I have a decent tach from a 78 that I can get, should I just do that and resell my 72?

Wasting too much time on this..please help me decide, thanks!

Cliff
