81 Engine with 79 intake and 2.7 fan??

I was looking at the fan trying to figure out why it looked smaller or different than the 79 SC and after some comparison and verifing by the local wrench, the fan etc.. is from a 2.7 engine. It still has later fuel lines and the date stamp on the intake tubes is 79? Seems odd. Wouldnt the later SC fan cool better?

I guess I should get under it and make sure it's not a 2.7liter? EDIT: looks like 930 104 101 4R any idea what year that is? Def. an SC case.
