Euros any different?

I just bought a 1979 Porsche 911, pictures to come soon. But I found out that its a euro model. Anything I should be aware of that is different than a us model?

I'll try to help out....

Your 79 Euro car should have the same 180HP of the US model . 1980 Euro models had 188HP and 81-83 had 204HP . US models that came with a bunch of smog crap remained at 180HP.

Usually, Euro models do not have the sunroof and elec windows options, but my 78 Euro came loaded with sunroof and a/c, but manual window winders. Euro cars also have the smaller rear bumperettes and "single" front turn indicators. Inner door reinforcements and smog crap may have been retrofitted to make the car US-legal.

There may be other differences, but I do not have my reference book at hand here at work.

Different front lights H4's and smaller front indicators.

I think the USA cars also have red indicators on the rear where the euro cars have orange. (I'm not 100% sure on this)

Overall I think the Euro cars look much nicer.

Thumbs up

Euro models are better.

They have nicer lamps/indicaters and smaller bumper pads. No hydraulic struts on the front bumper and simpler engine without emission limiting devices. Also slightly lower ride height.

Should be no problems with the insurance. Lots of Euros in the U.S. by now. By the way, I like your good natured response to the being told about the search button. Wish more new guys would not be so sensitive! Welcome to the group!

Euros rule. These cars are spec'd right. None of the extraneous crap that plague the US cars. I personally like their appearances too, subtle, yet the diff is enough to make you pine for them.

If it wasn't for the paperwork involved, I wouldn't hesitate to get one. I'm in the market for a SC or early car. The SC's being galvanized is a big plus.

What I like most is that the euros lack sunroof, emissions, electric windows. If you convert it to have the early car bumpers, I think you would have shaved quite a bit of weight.

One pelican head weighed his at 2500 lbs. Cool.

Yep my Euro 79 is at 2490 with no lighweight mods other than Recaro PP seats. Watch for the euro rust & oxidation - mine does have some.

Craig911, pretty impressive weight. If you backdate your car, would you violate the euro to US conversion regulations? Hmmm....wonder what all them backdaters are doing to get by regulations.

Gott move to SC where there's no regulations whatsoever.

Ha, regulations.....the beauty of Washington State is NO visual inspection - and once the car is 25 yrs old, no emission test either!

My car is 100% back to euro specs now that I bought the side marker filler pieces form Piedogger -
