Question OEM or SSI?

I have been looking around through old threads on mufflers and heat exchangers because I either need to get mine repaired and cleaned or get a new set.

Should I stick with my OEM 1974 exhaust system, or get a slightly used OE style dansk SS muffler and SSI's.

Any opinions welcome

Thanks

I believe the SSI's are just a nicely made copy of the OEM 74 and older versions. Their build quality is most likely better, but I don't think you'll get the performance boost from them. I'm not sure on the muffler.

I suppose for both, go with what is more cost effective and/or more aesthetic. something aftermarket is probably cheaper than OEM and maybe even better.

You should sell me your 74 exchangers for $50 bucks and buy new SSis. No really the SSis are equal length headers with the heat exchanger body and complet 304 stainless. Versus just steel stock exchangers. The difference performance wise is very little. but every little bit helps.

When my OE items went, I replaced them w/ SSIs and Dansk. For my 1980 engine, they made a huge difference since they were much better than the '80 setup. However, as Brother said, the SSIs are basically a stainless steel version of your originals. And Dansk is an OE supplier to Porsche. So I think the difference you will feel will be in the length of time these items will last, rather than in performance. Usually they are a little less costly than factory items, too.

The SSI are improved versions of the earlier exhaust I would want them on my car.
