Tire Sizes on 8&9 fuchs

Recently aquired a set of 951 8's, and some 930 9's for my SC track car.

Looking for experience with Hoosier sizes. I know people running 245/275s on aftermarket wheels, but am wondering what I can get away with on the fuchs.

I realize that height and springs make a difference, so some setup help would be useful too.

By the way I am still looking for another set of 8's and 9's if anyone's got some sitting around.

Most people run 225/245 on the 8/9 setup

Hey Mark, how did the repair at Hot Wheels go? I saw it in there but it was before it was finished. John is a stand up guy, just seems a little bit unorganized at times!!

But onto your questions, yes the ideal size is 245/275s, but im not sure you can fit those under SC fenders, I'm sure someone will chime in because someone always manages to do it, but when I had my SC, I couldn't. I cant remeber his screen name but Mike, with Orange car in Tn. has some fat rubber.

RS04s 245/45 and 275/45 x16 will be a very tight fit. The problem is that at the front an 8 w/ really wide tires wants +25 -+31mm o/s

225/50 and 245/45 x16 are fairly easy fits, there isn't any Hoosier in between.

If you want to go w/ Victoracers V700
245/45 & 265/45 x16 will be a fairly easy fit.

Any of the above will require some work.

rattlsnak: the car turned out great. I'm certainly willing to put up with a little 'character' when the work is good and it's affordable.

Bill: I've read your pages before, and I still get confused by the wheel options. When you say these options require work, what does that mean? Rolled fenders, spacers, other? Can you pm me with your phone, I'd like to chat if possible.

The point of buying these wheels was to go w/ wider rubber, so I need to figure this out.

Thanks!

When you say these options require work, what does that mean?
Lips - rolled trimed and ot pulled out depending on tire and wheel.
Trailing arm bolts - trimmed depending on tire and wheel
Oil lines - relocated depending on wheel and tire
Shock housings - trimmed depending on wheel and tire
camber - negative camber increased depending on wheel and tire
ride height
scuff pads on inner panels

etc.

Each car and wheel and tire combo is slightly duifferent and needs individual massage.

the wider a tire and the wider a wheel and the more deviance from the #s I have posted the more work will be necessary.

whenever spacers are needed I try to note that. I do try to avoid spacers at all costs.

Why did the turbo cars run spacers if they were of such question? I know cost and track width, but you know what I'm asking.

Have 930's had numerous failures in stock size/style spacers on the track in DE level competition on R style DOT tires I'm refering to the slide on with long studs, not the bolt on adapters.

cost, the fender flares were designed for 9 & 11" rims for use in racing. For street cars 7 & 8 and later 7 & 9 were deemed sufficient.

Porsche had to get special dispensation from T&UumlV to use the spacers on the 930s

Other special cars have used spacers at varoious times when appropriate width and/or o/s wheels were not availavble. That doesn't mean that it's a good idea. Best is to use wheels w/ the correct o/s and width for the application, using a spacer only if absolutely necessary.

The factory installs have not experienced failures, if you you do it right they can work ok but again it should only be done that way if there isn't a better option.
