Cost of Pulling Tub Straight

I'm considering buying a chassis (with all body panels) of an x race car.....no motor or tranny. Its a targa and has/had a roll bar, probably for protection and stiffening. Dont know why po would choose a targa for racing but thats a diff topic.

At any rate, I believe the tub is twisted. RF & LR high.

Question is: What does it cost to straighten the tub? To most it may not be worthwhile but I'd just like to know.

Does suspension need to be removed?

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

I don't have a figure but if you try a good body shop, one w/ a frame straightening machine (Celette?) they could tell you.

The celette machines and jigs are rare in most shops and expensive. IF someone has one, expect to pay top dollar but, it will be right!
The other option would be a shop with a laser alignment machine for the frame/unibody specs. The genesis or velocity measuring system designed to work with a chief frame machine. Helps a lot if they know how to anchor/ tie down and where to pull a 911 and have worked on them before. Check with your local PCA. You might even have a member that works in or owns a shop.

The amount of money will depend on how many millimeters it is out of spec and how much time is involved in pulling it into specs..setting up again and pulling more..etc.. expect a minimum of $500

good luck

make sure the rockers are done right or the top may not fit correctly and the doors will need shims (ask me how I know)

Well if its minimum of $500 that may nix the deal right there.

I would imagine that removal of suspension and motor/trans is required so machine can get to all measuring points, but dont know for sure. Motor/trans are not in car now.

Thanks for the tips and info.

I know this won't translate directly to your situation but here is what I had done.

91 C2 Turbo: Chassis twisted 1.5" higher at the right door post area.
Area in front of strut towers pushed to the left about 45 degrees

I had a new (used) clip installed and had the chassis pulled until it was straight. $2500. This doesn't include the clip, fenders, hood, bumper cover etc.
