911 slantnose headlight alternative?

Does anyone have an alternative to the pop up headlights on any slantnose. I love the look of the slantnose but the pop up headlight annoys me. I know I am being quite particular but I would like to incorporate the look of a 3000 GT kind of light (newer model) instead of pop ups. I took the lids off my slantnose headlights since one of my motors are bad and I can see one bad ass machine if I could get a headlight that I could mold into that space. Has anyone came across anything like that? Any pictures would be great.

Thanks, skijaker

Well, there is a crazy orange slant nose that has had his videos put up here a couple of times that has recessed headlights that don't pop up, or there's also my favorite looking setup which is the big round headlights down low in the 935 valance. Those look very cool, don't know how well they work from down there, but they do look cool.

Steve has one version you could go with but they may be illegal in many states. AIR may have what you're looking for as they used to have a bumper with headlights incorporated into it. I think they also had the 300ZX type inset headlights with the lexan/glass cover.

There is always the 928 variation.....

Pop ups are usually the answer to cars with low sloping front ends that need extra height to comply with minimum headlight height requirements.

Yes, the 928 style was very nice in the '94 Turbo S (I think that was the model).

Also, there's the possibility of doing what a guy did to a miata in a contest in "Grassroots Motorsports". They removed the pop-up light assemblies and mounted two large round lights in the front bumper. That would probably work in a 911 front bumper as well.

I've seen 944s with the pop up lights removed and replaced with a fixed type type light and lexan cover.

Good catch, Grady

www.GT-racing.com carries a 924 Carrera GT headlight conversion kit for $470...individual components are less. Perhaps this can be grafted in the steel fenders.

The car that made me fall in love with the slant nose (and finally buy one) had a kit with 928 popups. It was on the way to the '84 Indy 500, parked at a Subaru/VW dealership not far from the speedway. I was 15. I made the guy driving stop so I could get some pics. This is the only picture I can find, which unfortunately, doesn't show the front. If anybody knows anything about this car/kit, I would love to hear it...

I haven't seen one of those kits offered in quite some time. AIR used to sell them along with a couple of other vendors. However, their sales were miniscule compared to the factory look. Better bodies motorsports has a pic of one but it's to sell another component.

Anyone know if the 928 had one central motor controling both headlights through linkage? If so I'm curious if the flatnose w/ 928esque headlights used the same set up.

The 928 varient slantnose uses one motor with the same linkage as on the 928.

RickM, could you point me to Better Bodies website. I actually could use a new front end. I tried doing a search on Google and all I get is porn sites. "I like the ladies" but I would really like to find out more about the front end....Thanks!

Skijacker,

Glad you found it. For future reference: www.BetterBodiesMotorsport.com

BTW, the 935 bumper/air dam is in ""Misc"----> "Used and Discontinued"----> page 4.

Now this is what I was interested in doing. I assume it is some type of custom thing.

I would think that the physical mounting of lights in the space would be the easy part with the most difficult being finding a suitable cover (plastic/lexan/etc) that would fit the contour and shape of the bumers.

That's a Gemballa conversion. You might try contacting www.gemballausa.com to see whether parts are available. It seems to me that gemballa just keeps moving forward to new models and wants little to do with their past work. You might try this link also as they seem to market some splashes(copies).

http://www.xtrememotorcars.com/01/gemballa_style/main.html

I would want to see the parts in person before handing over any money. Just a feeling I get.

Here's a pic from my archives:
