SC- front camber help needed!
Car is lowered and even but...
The front camber is too negative. besides the slots in the top of the strut. What can I do to bring the front in more towards positive ???? |
The front camber is 1.5 negative on both sides but this is a street only car.. The rear is only .5 negative to keep the tires from wearing out...
Like to get the front more positive one degree! outa room on the slots..any ideas let me know. **Is it safe to grind the slots out some?** Harold |
This is a new product that I've recently introduced and it's available through Pelican, in queue though not in the online catalog just yet. Call and ask for it.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1099005370.gif It's an offset ball joint. The pin is offcenter in the housing, thereby changing the camber. The motivation for the product was to allow track cars to get more negative camber. Racers are familiar with the trick of lengthening control arms to increase camber and track. This does the same thing, without breaking out the welder. It can be turned around for your needs; more positive camber. To turn it around, you will need to file a notch for the control arm key - easy to do. |
So many 911's are lowered to the normal 25.5 front and 25 rear that I thought there is something more going on here.. something that could be adjusted more!! Maybe someone else has had this issue??
|
This is a common problem with lowered cars that want to keep "street" camber settings.
You can safely notch the bolt holes to get a little more positive. you might get 1/4 degree this way. But don't grind out the big center hole that the strut top passes through. |
What specs are people running on the street right now? I was under the impression it would be the same as a euro car and was going back to normal for what Porsche intended... The Bruce Anderson book said that US bumper/ride height had adverse effects on the alignment settings...
Thanks |
I've got the same problem. My mech at Hergsheimer feels I probably have a slightly bent left strut because he can't decrease the camber anymore than the -1.5 degrees that it's at right now. He has no problem with the other side.

Mine is both.....run all the way out it gets to -1.5 after lowering it.. no bends..
|
You might try adjusting your wheel bearings if they feel like they have a lot of play.

It seems that I hear people asking to get more negative when I do a search. I havent run across to many that have this issue with the camber being to negative although it makes sense that it might be an issue.
|
It is only an issue if you insist on having your car aligned to factory spec.

It's also possible that the spindle is beginning to break off the shock shaft...or has been bent up in a major "bump"......

Seems odd that it would do that the same amount so that both have the same amount of adjustment. I guess it's possible.
thanks |

You won't want to hear this, but the easiest way to get more positive is to raise it until you get it where your camber is acceptable. Ride height, looks, handling...it's all a trade off. Cheers, Joe |
Actually that was my first thought but, I didnt want to mess with the ride height anymore! (ever again!)
I will see if it's going to be a problem and maybe I'll end up moving it up a little. thanks |
