Shipping a Porsche back to Europe questions

Hi,

I just sold my 1970T Targa to a fellow in the Netherlands. Any pelicans know the best and most affordable way to ship to Europe? Shipping is the responsibility of the seller, but I want to give him some good advice. Does anybody know if I have to fill out any forms as the seller? Thanks.

getting closer to home

should be fairly straigth forward
the dutch system doesn't make to much fuss about where a car comes from ,as long as you can proove it's bought , not stolen

after import it will have to be technically checked and a number plate is assigned, but i'm pretty sure that the buyer will know all about that

Thanks. Have you shipped from the US? Who did you use?

I shipped my car to Germany when I moved here. I used a shipper out of Ft Lauderdale (can't remember the name), but the car was actually carried on a Wallenius Wilhemsen Lines car carrier ship.

The stereo was stolen from my wife's car and someone made an attempt to steal the the hood crest from the 911, gouging the paint. I had my own insurance coverage, but no marine policy from the shipper.

I was astounded at the lack of accountability for the damage. The pre-shipment dropoff inspection meant nothing. I went through my own insurance company and was covered, but the agent told me that she was doubtful they would get anything out of the shipping company.

So, make sure you get insurance with the shipper. I plan to go consult Zuffenhausen or Ruf for the trip back home in a year and a half.

K9Handler shipped his from the west coast to Germany, maybe he can chime in...

Not to put out any bad vibes, but make sure the checks clear and you are off the hook for any funds before shipping. Too many scams running around....

Agree with what George said and make sure that anything you want is taken out of the car and shipped separately. The tool kit etc will be stolen as will anything else they want if they can get their hands on it.

Shipping it in a container is safest but more costly and even then its not totally safe. Have seen them dropped but not often. Shipped a mint '57 356 to Germany a few years back and it went smoothly.

About 10 years ago I shipped A 356 Cab to its new owner in Norway. I used Maersk (spelling?) You need to get a shipping agent to do the paper work. They require a shipping agent to be involved for some reason. I think it cost about $100. My car went in a container all by itself. If you go the container route they charge you for the space you take in the container - so if you don't want other things crashing around it in rough seas you have to pay for a whole container. At that time I thing the new owner paid about $2400 to have a 20 ft container soley carry the 356. It arrived intact, so Maersk is alright with me.
