Thermostat went bad, parts in oil system???
The Mocal thermostat went bad in my 77 911. It was new about 4-5 years ago, and worked flawlessly with the 3.2, which was just removed for the 3.6 varioram which is now in it.
We took apart the bad thermostat, and when comparing it to a new one, realized that a spring and a bushing were missing. I assume these parts are in my oil system somewhere. A new t-stat is in, and it works great, but I'm concerned about parts floating in my oil system. Where are these bits, in my oil cooler, in the reservoir! Will they get pulled into the engine? What do I do? Drive it or disassemble the oil system and look for the parts? BTW, 3.6 ROCKS!!!

w/ a 993vram there should be little concern, there is an oil filter on both sides of the oil supply. It is also hard to visualize either migrating through the system.

What's the worst case? It is clogging a vein in one of my two oil coolers?

My Mocal thermostat is mounted inside the rear wheel well. Your picture is of a stock thermostat. The parts missing are 1/4 inch or less. One static bushing, and a small tension spring.
Sorry, no pics? The bits are probably somewhere in my oil system, where I do not know.

I don't think that I would be overly concerned, change and inspect both filters a little more often and monitor oil temps
