made some interesting discoveries..

While stripping the 911 down I made the following observations :-

1.B&B *exhausts are a piece of garbage . *edit..mufflers .

2. The heat knob above the e-brake has four positions --> off ,1 ,2, and 3.....#1 has no function whatsoever !! ,there are only two micro switches which work on cams ,neither switch is moved untill position #2 !!..........why bother ??.

3.It is physically impossible for anyone larger than an oompha-loompha to sit in the rear seats

4. The doors don't actually fit into the body ,they are essentially straight lines on the outside of a circle .

5.The rear grille mounted condensor is not practical for an air cooled engine that needs high air flow in a somewhat sealed engine compartment .

6.What the hell were they smoking when the thought of a horizontally mounted oil filter ?.

B&B headers very nice. Heaters boxes surrounding them not good.
B&B mufflers cr*p.

# 1 works on mine just fine.

The air flow to through the condensor: The lid needs to be sealed correctly before the condensor works efficiently. I know, I used to live in Arizona and we became experts on efficient A/C operation.

"6.What the hell were they smoking when the thought of a horizontally mounted oil filter ?."

Improved air flow for the "cool collar".

I'm glad that I'm not alone in this observation. What's up wid dat?

"3.It is physically impossible for anyone larger than an oompha-loompha to sit in the rear seats"

I have a 9 yr old oompha-loompha and a 12 yr old oompha-loompha, but the big one has had enough.

But I did once cram my 6 ft boss into the back seat. She was OK with it until I slammed her head against the roll bar on a fast turn. Oops, sorry boss.

Just what is so wrong with a horizontally-mounted filter on a dry-sump car ??????

Drain the oil...wait.....screw off filter with a small rag under the lower corcumference. There isn't one car that doesn't have *at least* this potential for schmutz....and some others are a lot worse.

Much worse, INHO....is the teeny, tiny, motorcycle size filter on my Corolla....located where?....yep, right under the exhaust manifold shroud. There, I always have a "hot" time and the chances for leaks alongside the engine block...no way to put a pre-emptive rag under the filter...you can only clean up the mess "afterwards"....

The 911 filter is the easiest to access and the easiest cleanup of the 4 cars we own.

You have obviously never had to change distributer points on a Chrysler slant six. Or pump gas on a car that had the filler behind the rear license plate. Guaranteed to spill 1/2 gallon of gas every time. And was it the '69 Camaro that it was impossible to change a few spark plugs?

I'll take my 60's design oil tank/filter over the 60's (or 70-90's) Detroit engineering any time.

Last year I provided the "Prom Night" ride to the offspring of a couple of friends of mine. Because of her dress, she got to ride in front. Despite the fact he was over six feet, we put the passenger side seat all the way forward and with a large shoehorn, popped him into place for the mile or so to the school. (We did a test fit the week before the dance to make sure.) He said he didn't mind, but I don't imagine he wanted to be back there much longer than 5 minutes. ;-)

The plugs on my '66 Dodge Dart slanty 6 were a PITA to get oil sealed correctly

And a b*$^h to get off/on. Lots of junk in the way. At least when you pull it off most of the oil has drained but what has not ends up dumping all over the steering pump and gravel guard. Worse is it is impossible to fill the filter before reinstalling as I like to do. The 911 was a piece of cake in comparison.
