Unfair John - you know that I'm sitting here trying not to spend even more money on R lights and you go and post this!

Thanks guys... my wife thinks my car and I are just attention whores

The R light bases are from TRE (both front and rear) and I believe they are made by another poster on the board. The quality and fit is great. The front lenses come with the bases and ther rear lights are some Hellas I sourced over here in Australia for $25 AUD each. As soon as I saw Freeman Thomas's car at the GAF I knew I wanted a similar look. Jack Olsen donated the chrome front grills...

The muffler is a Milli Miglia and is made in Sydney. I specifically asked for a single out. The finish has remained beautifully polished for 3 years now. I actually like that it has slightly yellowed at the flanges and at the tail pipe. I give it a once over each year with Mother's Metal Polish.

Some script is definitley on the cards in the future, I was originally heading in the Carerra direction but now it will be the more classic font down the sides like Bob Tilton's.

The flange on the left is a repair from the previous owner... I've just been too lazy to source a replacement. The headers are merely my old heat exchangers sans tin wear then heated up in my powder coater's booth before VHT exhaust paint. It's unsophisticated but I really like the look.

Probably the biggest shock of my entire rebuild is the lack of compulsory oil leaks! There is a little minor "sweating" at a couple of gaskets, but over-all it is as dry as it looks

I think if I can locate an original alluminum rear deck, I'll paint it up and give it a go for a few months. I'm pretty confident with my painting skills now... it only took me an hour and a half start to finish to do the R bases front and rear (but the excellent condition they come in really helps).

Go on Ryan... do it!

Fishcop, is that Mexico Blue or Porsche Royal Blue? I'm afraid I will be forced to buy the next early 911 wearing this shade of blue. It's incredibly beautiful.

Paint code for Porsche Royal Blue L305 or 305 depending where you look.
Fishcop and I chatted before. His is Porsche Royal Blue like my race car. My camera just washes the color out a bit. His camera is much better. It is a great color.

Chad has it. I believe in some markets it may have been refered to as Acid Blue or Arrow Blue, it's also quite close to Ossi Blue. And Chad is also right with the photographs, I can never seem to do it justice as it really does look better to the naked eye!

Just checked Paternie's book... 305 Arrow Blue (I believe it was on one of the 74 IROC cars too)

Here is a picture before decals. A little more blue in person.
Fishcop- Yes, I have seen Arrow blue on a 996 (same color code as the 60's and 70's Royal Blue) In fact, this is a picture of the the 996 that is responsible.......I have to get some of those tail lights! Fishcop has great taste

Excellent! a redeeming feature in a 996

Seriously spooky looking at your car without decals... I've been toying with the idea of some 7o's inspired graphics or racing stripes. If anyone knows or has seen Rob Dickinson's Bahama Yellow 69, then you get the idea...

Hi to Rob if you're reading.

rob's car looks sensational and inspired the new colour scheme on my otherwise dark-and-boring-midnight-blue rally car - prelim pics here:

New (retro) colour scheme for race car - prelim pics

ps: the shop just called: the orange wheels are back from the painter and fitted! - i'll try and take some pics on the weekend.

pps: damn you bill - now i'm convinced i NEED 911R lights in orange housings...

I'd be ashamed to drive a car with an engine that clean, obviously you don't drive it, just kidding. Very, very nice. BTW I don't know how to tell you this, but some previous owner put the steering wheel on the right side. Just kidding, very, very nice (oh, I already said that).

Cheers again guys! Rob's car still has the normal latch so I'm pretty sure it was okay. It was only afterwards and looking at the picture I'd taken that I realised he'd forgotten to fasten them after he and Tyson dropped me off from a drive and a couple of beers.

Ryan, you have to Rob's car in the flesh... it really is a beautiful looking car and the those 11" rear fuchs are divine. I know Rob lurks here every now and then but doesn't post... pity 'cause he's a funny guy.

Bob, I'll drag it out into the light over the weekend and grab you some side photos.

Cheers again
