H4 trim ring quesrion

OK guys,

Here's another H4 dumb question. I purchased a set of H4 headlights at GAF from Pelican. I have the black trim ring on it. Is there an additional trim rings that need to go on top of that. The additional trim rings are the ones that needed to be painted, or do I paint the black (primed) ones that came with the set. Will my existing H5 rings fit on there. I wish they would tell me. It is an 88 930. Thanks very much, Jeff

You take the assembly apart and paint that ring. You can get snap-on rings to cover it up, but what's the point?

my h4's have the chrome ring so i used the paintable ring and painted them to match the car.
the rings cover up the adjustment screws which i think make for a clean look......lemme dig up some pics.

Hey Bell, love to see some pics. Thanks. So this paintable ring just snap on, and are held on with one screw?

The trim rings are held on with the one screw at the bottom. They come with a female threaded screw, which holds the light assembly on and also accepts a screw to hold the trim ring on.

Another bennie: If your trim rings get beat up, you can just have them painted w/o having to take the light apart.

Question

I have a question related to trim rings on H4 headlights also. The PO of my 911 lost the bullet head type screw that holds the chrome ring in place. Does anyone know where I can get one - cant find it on pelican parts list.

Also does anyone know why a thread is on the inside of the top of the headlight trim screw???

That's how you keep the paintable trim rings on. There's a phillips head screw that goes into that threaded hole that holds the trim rings in place on top of the chrome or black painted light assembly.

Yes, when replacing your headlights, its a good rule of thumb to replace your rubber gasket.

Do you mean the H4 Euro Headlight Screw, Outer (1974-86) or H4 Euro Headlight Screw, Inner (1974-86), fits inside outer screw

Found them here

Hi Guys finally managed to get the digital camera out and photgraph the screw I need for the chrome ring on a 1976 ROW.

I ordered the trim ring screw from Pelican (it is in the right side of the photo #911 631 146 01). But its the wrong part.

What I need is in the left side of the photo. An unusual screw more like a tulip shape or a bullet. The shoulders of the screw seem to be the most important part as they hold the chrome trim ring in place due to the shape of the top of the screw.

Does anyone know what this small, but vital part is?

that is all you need, BUT check the tab that the mounting bolt screws into in the fender.....clean out the threads etc....don't want that to strip.
